Tourism is thought-about because the world's largest trade and generator of jobs. This sector takes many forms with demand met by facilities of differing scales and degree of sophistication. It also provides wide-ranging opportunities for foreign investors and native entrepreneurs. It is seen to bring inward investment, foreign exchange earnings and creation of small, medium and micro businesses and Egypt has a vibrant entreprenurial population with strong potential for growth. Moreover, one of the key challenges is the importance of stimulating and supporting emerging tourism entrepreneurs, and of maximizing opportunities for the SMME sector. Thus, this research aims to determine the role of small businesses in the tourism industry and their contribution to economic growth in Egypt. For this purpose, field researches conducted using questionnaires for Random sample of Installations Owners of Tourism and Hotels and interviews with tourism and Economic experts. This research is based on an descriptive analytic approach to achieve its goals.

The study empirically sought to analyse challenges inhibiting the growth of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) within the tourism sector in South Africa. The study employed qualitative research design following the in depth interviews in order to gather data form tourism SME owners and managers in South Africa, who formed the sample population for the study. A sample of 20 respondents was drawn using purposive sampling approach. The participants who were selected were tourism SME owners and managers of guesthouses, lodges and bed and breakfast houses, shuttle transport, art and craft curio shops and agricultural sector. The researchers has provided a perspective on the role of tourism SMEs in South Africa. The study identified the hindering challenges for tourism SMEs development and growth as lack of access to funding, inadequate or unavailable government funding, lack of entrepreneurial and management skills to operate their businesses, lack of networking connections, poor location of SME operations and stiff competition for well-established SMEs. The recommendations were made that alternative funding strategies should be used, SME owners and managers should be trained, the SMEs should join network groups and share ideas, and they should also invest in marketing and communication technologies for their products to be known to the market.
The Growth of Micro, Small and Medium-Sized Hotel Enterprises: The Hoteliers’ Perspectives

Kelantan, considered a peripheral state in Malaysia, is economically driven by hordes of small and medium-sized enterprises. The existence of many micro, small and medium-sized hotel enterprises (MSMEs) in Kelantan indicates the important role they play in expounding Malaysia’s tourism industry, therefore the focus of this paper. Eleven hoteliers representing such enterprises were interviewed using face-to-face in-depth interview technique. Researchers also interviewed several policy makers. Findings suggest that many of the micro and small enterprises faced daunting task of raising capital to sustain or expand their businesses. The medium-sized enterprises on the other hand were more fortunate in the sense that the higher number of rooms they operated ensured a higher income, therefore, relatively easier for them to raise capital when situation arisen.

Determinants of tourism small and medium enterprises financial performance

This study develops and tests a structural model that incorporates the determinants of SME financial performance in Mauritius. Data were collected from 384 tourism SME owners using a structured questionnaire. The results indicate that managerial capability has a significant positive effect on SME performance and is in turn influenced by managers' autonomy and competence. The study does find a significant relationship between innovation capability and SME performance. Given the socioeconomic importance of SMEs to the Mauritian economy, the results provide crucial information to government and policy-makers that can used to develop macroeconomic policies that increase their contribution to the socioeconomic development of the country. For entrepreneurs, the study provides insights on areas of interventions that can lead to an improvement in the financial performance of their organisations. Despite the study limitations, it contributes to a theoretical understanding of the determinants of financial performance in African economies.

The purposes of this study are 1) to analize the characteristics of entrepreneurs supporting tourism industry, based on commitment and competence in Tojo Una-Una Regency and 2) to develop a model for fostering entrepreneurs supporting tourism industry in Tojo Una-Una Regency. Descriptive Qualitative used in this study, and data collected through interviews and questionnaires. The population in this study is all the enterpreneurs of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) supporting regional tourism in Tojo Una-Una District. The results of this study indicate that the industry such as transportation services, snacks, performing arts and music businesses are on the 5 th position of the quadrant, while the restaurants, crafts, hotels, inns, and travel agencies busnisses are on the 6 th quadrant. The development model for industries on the 6 th quadrant is increasing commitment through non-technical training aiming at building the motivation of enterpreneurs to believe in their business, willing to devote their mind and time for their businesses; while persistent in their business. Enhancement of competence should be started from basic level of skills of production, finance, and marketing, based on the weaknesses of each business. The development model for enterpreneurs on the 6 th quadrant has strengthen the competency aspects.

The town of Aksum is historically the richest tourist destination in Ethiopia. Thus, it is known for its cultural tourist attractions i.e. archaeological, religious and historical attractions.
