BRAILLE TO TEXT AND SPEECH FOR CECITY PERSONS

Visually impaired peoples use braille system for reading and writing. This people are not able to operate computers and other educational software due to this they unable to improve their knowledge. They are comparatively weak than people with clear vision which causes adverse effect on the economic society. One way to improve their knowledge is by introducing a system which can convert braille to word and audio which will improve them to communicate freely with outside world. This system presents the implementation of braille to word and audio converter which is output and word of that particular input. Braille Keypad with different combination of six cells are used an input to system. In this system FPGA kit is used to convert this input to English text and also display it on LCD after decoding English text it converted to audio Keywords: Braille language, blind people, Braille to English word converter.

Text and Voice to Braille Translator for Blind People

voice to braille, 2023

Braille is the main way to teach blind people. Blind readers can read using this Braille system with the help of their fingers. Much work has been done to modernize the blind education system, but it is still very expensive and complex. This paper proposed a cost-effective and user-friendly braille device based on simple technology. This paper presents the design, implementation, and working principle of a new concept of a Braille translating device which can convert text and voice to braille signs for blind students. It can convert letters from different languages to Braille symbols according to the "Voice" and "Text" commands given by the user. It can give an output like a traditional Braille sign with a voice, for confirmation of the sign displayed in the cell. This device consists of only one refreshable braille cell which can show those braille signs. Along with blind students, educators can take advantage of this device to teach blind students. Educators can operate this device with the help of smart phones and computers using Bluetooth and a USB cable. Educators can connect more than 30 braille translating devices with their computers and teach 30 students at a time. After user test and result analysis of this proposed device, observed that this system's portability, simplicity, cost efficiency, and user-friendly interface put this ahead of other devices. The results suggest that the given approach is a superior option for implementing refresh-able braille devices more simply and cost-effectively.

Design and Implementation of Digital Braille System for The Visually Impaired

According to World Health Organization (WHO), there are approximately 2.2 billion people who are visually impaired in the world (Oct, 2019). Braille is a tactile writing system used by people who are visually impaired and is typically written on embossed paper. Reading is the most important form of learning. According to Varao Sousa [11] , reading reduces mind wandering and increases understanding. For visually impaired people, reading refers to braille reading through touch. In this digital age, where everything is done online, the visually impaired have a hard time trying to access digital content or read electronic documents. Digital braille or electronic braille is a way in which the visually impaired can access information using electronic braille displays where the digital content on screen is converted into braille and is made available for use. Many electronic braille systems are printed onto paper and this form of braille is susceptible to wear and tear. Most electronic braille systems used are very expensive especially in developing countries such as India. Hence, we are proposing a digital braille system that is affordable and easy to use. The digital braille system designed converts digital text from documents to braille using python script. The system is driven by electromagnetic push-pull solenoids connected to an Arduino Uno board. The vertical movements of the solenoids represent the braille characters. Each character is read and the corresponding dots representing the character in the braille alphabet is displayed. The system can also be a handy tool for teaching and training the visually impaired people.

Portable Device Converting Braille of English and Kannada Language to Speech Output

Braille is an image of 6 celled dots". This paper presents a novel method of converting Braille of English and Kannada Language to a speech output and also having a text to speech and a communication to model having speech to text output in English language to have a more economical and a handheld device for a visually impaired people. The Project deals with Image Processing algorithm to be followed along with some hardware implementation which basically deals with a final handheld device that can read or capture the image from the Braille text or image or a print and can obtain the output through speech using OCR (Optical Character Recognition) and TTS (Text to Speech) Technique. This application has been developed to support the young visually impaired and also to support them to be more independent and knowledgeable to the new technology in an early age. Optical Braille Recognition and Optical Character recognition are useful for visually impaired people who are unable to read text documents or Braille script but require access to the documents' content.

Analysis of Different Braille Devices for Implementing a Cost-effective and Portable Braille System for the Visually Impaired People

International Journal of Computer Applications

There are diverse tools and equipments which are proving different facilities and features for enhancing the communication skills of the visually impaired people in a great extent. For interpretation of text by the visually impaired persons, most of the devices are designed to simulate the standard Braille display where each character is characterized by six dots (made up of small metals or plastic pins) which could be vertically moved in upper or lower directions mechanically or electronically or through any other mechanism. Also for writing the contents, same standard is followed for building any Braille writer. Analyzing different updated machinery and equipments which support the visually impaired persons for their proper communication with the others, it has been found that these tools provide only some particular facility or feature and that tools sometime may not be sufficient to provide improved support. That is why it is necessary to integrate all different possible communication methods in a single system to cover the different drawbacks in the existing systems and provide a complete solution to those visually impaired people. This paper is the result of analysis of the existing tools and technologies for the enhancement of the communication of the blind people and this paper also proposes a complete system which consists of four different techniques for the blind people to enhance their communication skills. The proposed system consists of a low cost keyboard as Braille writer, a low cost tactile refreshable Braille display (named as SPARSHA), remote communication method through SMS and an Audio output system of the text. This system may provide a complete solution to different communication problem in the visually impaired person's lives.

Voiced Controlled Braille Embosser

International Journal for Research in Applied Science and Engineering Technology, 2020

This abstract presents an innovative method to create a Braille Embosser, which would be controlled by voice. The required embossed character will be provided by printer after giving the voice command. The technique would be most helpful for visually impaired people to perform their typing task. Creating a speech controlled printer using various electrical and mechanical domains such as digital signal processing, analog circuit design, and interfacing the electrical bobbins is the main objective of this project. Graphic printing is becoming more and more important in the life of blind people. Until now, unfortunately, braille printer can't print graphic. Thus, in this project, a graphic printing method for embosser has been introduced which utilizes voice recognition and edge detection to convert English alphabets to corresponding actual Braille language. Then, it utilizes faster scan method to read the input voice and print the graphic with dot style. This can achieve graphic printing with different sizes of image onto A4 paper clearly and completely. This voice controlled braille embosser can be used for identifying the graphic printing as well.

DEVICE FOR TEXT TO SPEECH PRODUCTION AND TO BRAILLE SCRIPT

IAEME PUBLICATION, 2014

Writing is a very effective means of communicating our thoughts to people. We use scripts provided by the language to convey our thoughts to paper. However, in case of people who don’t have the sense of vision, they use a different type of script, known as Braille, named after its founder, Louis Braille. It is unlike the scripts that sighted use for writing. The current methods by which the unsighted and deaf are able to communicate are few, and all have serious drawbacks. These people completely depend on Braille and Audio recordings provided. Audio recordings provided are limited. Here we attempt to devise a system that will take the image of the text and convert it into speech& propose a system which will take image of the text and convert it to Braille script. We hope that this system will be helpful in bridging this communication gap that exists between sighted & non-sighted people. In this system MATLAB is used to process the image & speech signals.

A PC-based Braille library system for the sightless

IEEE transactions on rehabilitation engineering : a publication of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society, 1998

This paper presents a novel multiclient braille reading system developed around a single low cost personal computer. The system primarily addresses the needs of the Braille libraries, where different texts are needed to be read by different users simultaneously. Moreover, the system can simultaneously cater to different texts written in different languages. This feature makes it specially suitable for use by multilingual nationalities. The major advantage of this system is its low cost, compared to the other systems available and is specially attractive for the developing or underdeveloped countries. The paper describes the system, first from the user point of view and then presents the hardware and software design details. The system performance has been evaluated by the sightless users and has shown encouraging results.
