Productivity and Quality of Potatoes Under Different Potassium Fertilizer Sources

The objective of this study was to evaluate potassium and chloride accumulation in, and the yield and quality of the potato tubers of the Asterix cultivar, under the application of two potassium fertilizer sources (KCl and K2SO4.2MgSO4) and their combinations. The experimental design was a randomized complete block with five treatments and four replications in a factorial scheme with a subdivided plot. The presence of greater than 61.8% of the recommended dose of chloride in potassium fertilization affects potato plant growth, with less dry matter accumulation in the aerial part. This does not occur in the tubers because of lower nutrient translocation to the tubers. K accumulation varies between levels depending on the companion ions of the sources. Throughout the cycle, the amount of chloride increased in the aerial parts and tubers with an increase in the percentage of KCl. PRODUCTIVITY AND STORABILITY OF SWEET POTATO AS INFLUENCED BY NATURAL , CONVENTIONAL POTASSIUM FERTILIZER SOURCES AND SILICATE DISSOLVING BACTERIA

This study was conducted to estimate whether natural K-feldspar fertilization alone and/or with silicate dissolving bacteria as well as foliar spraying with potassium could replace in full or partial with conventional potassium in sweet potato production with no converse effect on productivity and storability. Thence, two field experiments were carried out during two successive summer seasons of 2013 and 2014 at the Hort. Res. Farm of El-Bramoon, Dakahlia Governorate, to investigate the response of applied different sources from potassium fertilizers (potassium sulphate (PS) as conventional fertilizer and feldspar (FL) as natural potassium) at the recommended rate (96kg K 2 O/fed.) either single or in combination with others and/or the biofertilizer silicate dissolving bacteria (SDB); i.e. Bacillus circulans as well as foliar spraying(FS) with potassium at 4% K 2 O on Productivity and storability of sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas L.) cv. Beauregard. The obtained results indicate that the combined application of 72 kg K 2 O fed. as PS + 24kg K 2 O fed. as FL + SDB induced vegetative growth characters (vine Length, canopy dry weight and number of branches) while, application of 48 kg K 2 O fed as PS + 48kg K 2 O fed. as FL + SDB had the highest significant value among treatments in total yield ,marketable yield, tuber root characteristics (weight , length, diameter and dry matter %), chemical and organic composition (N, P , K, cured protein, total carbohydrates, total sugar and total carotenoids) of sweet potato plants. Also, this treatment led to significant decreases in non marketable yield and weight loss of stored roots at 30, 60, 90 and 120 days during storage periods compared with control. Effects of Nutrition and Potassium on Vegetative Characteristics and Yield of Potato

Nitrogen (N) fertilizer management is a challenge in potato production. Also Potassium(K) fertilizer often required for optimum potato yields Therefore, a study was carried out on the effect of different nitrogen and Solupotasse fertilizer levels on vegetative characteristics and yield in 2014. It was a split plot experiment based on a Randomized Complete Block Design with three replications. The main plot was four N fertilizer levels (0, 125,250 and 375 kg N/ha) and the sub-plot was four K fertilizer levels (0, 2,4 and 6 kg K/ha). The results showed that the main effect of N fertilizer was significant on mean leaf number, mean plant height, mean tuber number and fresh tuber yield at 1% probability level and the main effect of N fertilizer was significant on Mean branch number at 5% probability level.
