Teachers’ Perception on the Level of Availability of Instructional Materials in Public Secondary Schools of Zamfara State, Nigeria, 2021

This study examines the level of availability of instructional materials among government-owned public secondary schools in Gusau Local Government Area, Zamfara State, Nigeria. Descriptive survey research was employed and 190 teachers were simple randomly sampled out of the total population of 367 in-service teachers in Gusau LGA through Morgan and Krejcie's (1971) table of determining sample size. Three research questions were established in order to achieve the three objectives formulated for the study. Descriptive statistics (Simple percentage, mean, and standard deviation) were utilized in data analysis. The paper observed that Audio Materials were "Rarely Available" (M=1.99, SD=1.58); Visual Materials were "Much Available" (M=2.73, SD=2.34); while AudioVisual Materials were "Rarely Available" (M=1.68, SD=1.33). In light of this, the study, therefore, recommends that Government, stakeholders in the educational sector, non-governmental and civil society organizations, as well as other well-to-do philanthropists in Zamfara State and particularly in Gusau LGA should endeavor to put more efforts to provide/donate more instructional materials (Audio, Visual, and AudioVisual) for public secondary schools to meet the required amount of materials for the purpose of the enhancing the learners' academic performance and successful professional course delivery of teachers.

UTILIZATION OF INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS IN PUBLIC PRIMARY SCHOOLS IN KAFANCHAN, KADUNA STATE

The study is designed to examine the utilization of instructional materials in teaching public primary schools in Kafanchan, Jema"a Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Nigeria. A teacher needs to be skilful in utilizing different types of instructional materials in order to facilitate the learning process. Pupils learn faster and have good retentive memory if the teaching and learning process engages all their senses. The researcher examined teachers" attitudes and perception towards effective utilization of instructional materials and resources in teaching pupils in public primary schools in Kafanchan. Descriptive research design was adopted by the researcher for this study and the study population includes all teaching staff in public primary schools in Kafanchan. A sample of 50 teaching staff was chosen by means of non-probability sampling technique (purposive sampling) to obtain the sample size. A structured questionnaire was also used for the data collection and the data were presented in tables and charts. Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) was used for the analysis. The findings showed that; teachers have good perception and positive attitude towards utilization of instructional materials. The study recommends that government, organizations, communities, philanthropists etc should ensure the provision of the resources, supervise and monitor the use of the resources apart from ensuring that teachers improvise instructional materials where or when necessary to improve the quality of academic achievement of the young pupils.

Availability of Insructional Materials for Teaching and Learning in Secondary Schools in Nsukka Education Zone, Enugu State

This study was conducted to find out the availability of instructional materials as a tool to enhance teaching and learning in secondary schools in Nsukka Education Zone, Enugu State, Nigeria. Availability of Instructional Materials at the Basic Education Level in Enugu Educational Zone of Enugu State, Nigeria

The study examined the availability of instructional materials at the basic education level in Enugu Education Zone of Enugu State, Nigeria. One research question and one hypothesis guided the study. The research question was answered using mean and grand mean ratings, while the hypothesis was tested using t-test statistics at .05 level of significance and a critical value of 1.96. Descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study, using a researcher developed instrument tagged; availability of instructional materials at the basic education level questionnaire (AIMBELQ). Instructional materials as determinants of students’ academic performance at the secondary school level In Ikorodu local government, Lagos State, Nigeria

This study was carried out to find out the effects of instructional resources on the academic achievement of secondary school students. The study is descriptive in nature and it adopted a survey design. Stratified random sampling technique was used for the selection. This therefore gives 29.8 respondents from teachers and 251.2 students making a total of 281 respondents. Teachers and students in the sampled schools were administered, an investigator constructed questionnaire. Two research questions were raised for the study. Data collected were analyzed using simple percentages. The findings showed that instructional resources play a significant role in enhancing performance of students in schools. Furthermore, the results revealed that schools with adequate quality of teachers and enough instructional material resources showed superiority in academic achievements test than schools without adequate teacher quality and instructional material resources. As seen in the findings from this research, it could be easily concluded that the main reason for lack of proper use of instructional materials in the secondary schools is the lack of users' education. The study therefore concludes that if authorities and staff should take this up as an urgent responsibility to build the expected capacity by orientating the users of the available instructional materials properly, improper use of available instructional materials will be curbed in Nigerian especially in the secondary schools setting.

AVAILABILITY AND UTILISATION OF EDUCATIONAL RESOURCE MATERIALS FOR TEACHING AND LEARNING IN SECONDARY SCHOOLS: A NECESSITY FOR EDUCATIONAL TRANSFORMATION

The purpose of this study was to determine the availability of educational resource materials in secondary schools in Kaduna, and to establish if, in the evaluation, selection and utilization of these resources adequate criteria were followed. The selection of resources for instruction is very important because of the role they serve. Resource materials improve the balance between the concrete and abstract learning experiences of students, enabling them to integrate prior experiences. The study population comprised all principals and teachers from private and public junior secondary schools in the four local government areas that make up Kaduna metropolis (namely, Igabi, Chikun, Kaduna North, and Kaduna South Local Government Areas). One hundred and twenty three (123) principals from both private and public secondary schools and three hundred and forty six teachers (346) formed the sample for the study, which was obtained using a simple random sampling procedure. The study employed survey design. Questionnaires were administered to carry out the investigations and the results were analyzed using descriptive statistical methods (means and t-tests).

The study focuses on the availability and utilization of instructional materials and students' achievement in basic technology in secondary schools in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State. A proportional stratified random sampling method will be adopted to select 700 students from 10 selected Government Secondary schools. Four research questions will be answered and three hypotheses will be tested at 0.05 level of significance. 75 items on the instrument will be used to ascertain the availability and utilization of instructional materials and students achievement. The reliability of the instrument will correlated using Pearson Product Moment Coefficient (r). Mean and standard deviations will be used to answer the research questions, and this will also be used to test the hypotheses.

This study examined the Utilization of Instructional Materials and Students Academic Performance in junior public secondary Schools in selected Local Government Areas, Rivers State. The study was guided by five research questions and three hypotheses. The correlational research design was adopted in the study with a population of 9,368 students in Junior Public Schools in Ikwerre and Emohua Local Government Areas. The sample for the study is 956. The instrument for data collection was a self-designed questionnaire. Availability of Instructional Materials on Students' Academic Performance in Senior Secondary Schools in Maiduguri Metropolis, Borno State

This study examined the availability of instructional materials and students' academic performance in senior secondary schools, Maiduguri Metropolis, Borno State, Nigeria. Two (2) objectives and a null hypothesis were used to determine the availability of instructional materials and students' academic performance in senior secondary schools in Borno state. Survey and Correlational design were used. The total population of the study was 1,236 teachers and 10,349 students out of which 371 teachers and 3,105 students were sampled through simple random sampling. SSCE results for five consecutive years of the 2014-2018 academic sessions were obtained for the study. Checklist and Pro-forma were used for data collection. Data collected were analyzed using Pearson Product Moment Correlation coefficient, frequency and percentage at 0.05 level of significance. The study revealed a significant relationship between availability of instructional materials and students' academic performance in senior secondary schools in Maiduguri Metropolis. Accessibility of instructional materials for effective teaching: outlook from high schools in Eleme, River State, Nigeria

The study focuses on the accessibility of instructional material for effective teaching in secondary (high) schools in Eleme, Rivers State, Nigeria. The population of the study consisted of 450 teachers from eight secondary (high) schools using a structured research questionnaire. The questionnaires were administered to 78 teachers from eight secondary (high) schools. Percentages (%) and frequency counts were used to assess the data that had been obtained. The numerical values of the estimated % of the response options’ values served as the basis for the decision. Any item with a % score of 50 or higher was considered to be accessible (available), whereas % values lower than 50 were considered to be unavailable.
