Awareness of Physiotherapy among Medical Professionals: A Cross Sectional Survey

Objectives: The study aim to determine the knowledge and awareness of physical therapy in medical professionals. Methodology: A descriptive, cross sectional study was used to examine 105 medical practitioners in Haripur. A standardized questionnaire was used in collecting data for 3 months, starting from June, 2018. Those participants (Medical practitioners) that were registered in different Haripur hospitals were included in sampling, whereas those hospitals/clinics participant that were not registered with PMDC (Pakistan Medical and Dental Council) and were not able to complete the questionnaire were excluded from the study. Prior to collecting the data, the individuals provided their written informed consent. According to the type of variable being studied, descriptive statistics were extracted from the response after it had been processed using SPSS-20. AWARENESS AMONGST MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS ABOUT IMPORTANCE OF HYSIOTHERAPY.

Background: The present study was conducted to evaluate the level of awareness about physiotherapy among medical professionals. Methods: 110 medical professionals from Punjab, Haryana and Jammu participated in the survey study. They were required to complete a 21 item self developed closed-ended questionnaire. Results: The data revealed that 96.2% respondents were aware of the physiotherapy profession, 94.3% people knew it as a professional course, 41.5% people are aware of the course duration, 67.9% people were not aware of the various specialized fields in physiotherapy and only 47.2% people are aware of the physiotherapy curriculum. 96.2% of the respondents are aware of the role of physiotherapy in various conditions, 50.9% consulted a physiotherapists. 58.3% got awareness through lectures given by physiotherapist, 81.1% thought that the physiotherapists are trained enough to plan the treatment and 52.8% think that medical professionals are trained enough to prescribe physiotherapy treatment for the patients and 50.9% of participants write prescriptions while referring the patients for physiotherapy. 83.1% respondents think that physiotherapy is not still limited to orthopaedics or sports field.

Awareness, Belief, Attitude and Utilization of Physiotherapy Services Among Doctors

Physiotherapy has come to be recognized as a well-known form of medical care that reduces patients' dependency and level of disability. Physiotherapists play an important part in community rehabilitation and health education because of the role physiotherapy plays in reducing the incidence and severity of disability. Objectives: To determine about the awareness of belief and attitude towards the utilization of physiotherapy services and interventions among doctors in selected hospitals of Lahore. Methods: The study design was Descriptive cross sectional. Total 150 doctors participated in this research from Arif Memorial Hospital, Mayo Hospital, Farooq Hospital and Ghurki Hospital. AWARENESS AND ATTITUDE TOWARDS PHYSIOTHERAPY AMONG HIGHER SECONDARY STUDENTS: A PILOT SURVEY STUDY

Background: Physiotherapy is a health care profession. Physiotherapy plays a significant role in all levels of health. The higher secondary students are potential students for Bachelor of Physiotherapy programme. It is important to have good awareness and positive attitude about various occupation and professions that are related to his/her field of study. This study aimed at identifying the awareness level and their attitude about the profession which may provide adequate information to strategize the measures to enhance it further. Objective: To study the awareness and attitude about Physiotherapy among higher secondary students. Materials and Methods: A survey was conducted using a questionnaire that was modified and adapted with permission from a similar study done by Thusharike D. Dissanyaka. Forty five higher secondary students with science group from Sakthi tuition center, Thanjavur participated in this study. The questionnaire was analyzed and interpreted. Results: Only 9% aware of all four (Manual therapy, Ice/heat therapy, hydrotherapy, electrotherapy & exercise therapy) components of Physiotherapy. The most commonly known treatment means of Physiotherapy is manual therapy followed by exercise therapy and electrotherapy and the least awareness is about hydrotherapy technique. The highest number of respondents (80%) replied Physiotherapy is used in musculoskeletal conditions, and only 17% replied Physiotherapy is used in peadiatrics. Conclusion and Clinical Implication: The awareness about the profession is less satisfactory. Appropriate measures have to be taken to increase the awareness and create a good attitude towards the Physiotherapy profession .

Prevalence of Awareness of Physiotherapy Amongst Health Care Professionals in Surat City

Background: Physical therapist plays an important role in health care in reducing hospital stay, rehabilitation for better quality of life and quicker recovery. That is why it is important for the health care professionals to be aware about the importance of a role of physical therapist in maintaining functional ability of an individual and approaches and principles. Methods: A sample of 151 subjects were randomly taken and every subject was given a validated questionnaire which was taken as an interview. Physiotherapist, interns, Lab technicians, Unwilling participants were excluded. Further analysis was done after the response was gathered. Result: There is 100% awareness of the existence of the field of physiotherapy among health care professionals in Surat city, but not of individual specialties like burns management, prescribing orthosis and community management. Conclusion: The study revealed that there is full awareness about physiotherapy among health care professionals in Surat city. Most of the subjects believed that patients should visit a physiotherapy center only on the reference of a doctor. Community based rehabilitation is least known among subjects while neuro and ortho rehabilitation is known popularly.

How Effective Adult Patients of Delhi NCR with Musculoskeletal Disorders Found Their Physiotherapy Treatment and Their Awareness and Perception about Physiotherapy -A Cross-Sectional Study

Background: Physical therapy is very well known for its vital role in health promotion, treating, and preventing a wide spectrum of health disorders. It is considered an indispensable part of the recovery of patients with musculoskeletal disorders and is regarded as an important field of medicine in the health sector. Objective: The purpose of this study was to find how effective patients of musculoskeletal disorders found physical therapy in their journey of recovery and their Awareness and Perception about Physiotherapy Method: Online cross-sectional survey developed by the authors was conducted using Google Forms. A total of 26 questions excluding questions regarding general demographics of patients, were designed in this web-based survey. Non-probability purposive sampling method was used. The survey was distributed via emails/WhatsApp to 260 adult patients residing in Delhi NCR, who approached physiotherapy for musculoskeletal conditions. Based on the responses, percentage analysis was done. Result and Conclusion: Out of 260 only 231 patients responded (male = 126 female = 105) between age group 20 to 92 residing in Delhi and NCR. Majority of the patients found physiotherapy an effective treatment option and were satisfied with their overall physiotherapy experience. Yet a large number of patients couldn't identify the role of physiotherapy in health sector. People of Delhi-NCR still lack awareness about the various specializations in Physiotherapy and many patients were unable to identify the role of a physiotherapist and confused them with other healthcare professionals like Massage Therapists, Chiropractors and Acupuncturist.

Background: In the healthcare sector, professions like those of Doctors and Nurses are well known than the other paramedical professions like Physiotherapy. However, the physiotherapist plays a major role in providing health care and it is a highly recognized profession worldwide. Physiotherapists work in a wide-ranging of health settings including Cardio-Pulmonary, Neurological and Orthopedic Conditions, occupational health and Ergonomic factors, sports Injuries and care of the elderly. The aim of this study was to assess the level of awareness about physiotherapy among high school students and to assess the sources form which they could obtain information regarding physiotherapy. Need Of The Study: When planning one's future career, it is important to have information about various occupations and professions that are related to his/her field of study. Even though a few people have an idea about their future career pathways in advance, majority of them are uncertain about it. For most people, these plans are usually made during their early and late adolescence. A majority of school children are also unaware about career opportunities open to them and most of them analyse their career prospects by looking at the social status of the occupation of their choice and the opportunities for career development. Students choose physiotherapy as a Optional that after they get don't enough score to get MBBS and other known field, here need arise to know about the Physiotherapy profession as a Mandatory for every aspects of life process. Methodology: A survey was implemented in this study. The study was undertaken with the help of a Questionnaire which was distributed to 131 higher secondary students with biology as elective subject. Result: The overall awareness about physiotherapy was approximately 53.38%. The true answer rates for these questions were 25% and 45.9% respectively. 9.16% of the study population was not aware of treatment methods used in physiotherapy, and 36% did not know when to meet a physiotherapist. 21.37% of students were unaware about the uses of physiotherapy in other disease conditions than sports injuries, mainly in chest conditions like bronchitis (37%). Conclusion: The students have a moderate awareness about Physiotherapy; the awareness about the role of Physiotherapy in specialties other than orthopaedics is less satisfactory.

Awareness of Various Aspects of Physiotherapy among Medical Residents

Physiotherapy profession has emerged as important medical and rehabilitation complement in health care delivery and vital therapeutic tool but there exists a variation in the referral. Method: A survey based study using self-devised pre validated questionnaire. Results: Musculoskeletal physiotherapy (97.22%) was most known among various fields of physiotherapy followed by sports (93.80%), neuro (86.66%) while least in industrial therapy (66.10%) and community based rehabilitation (64.40%). Only 2% knew about both pre and post-operative physiotherapy. Conclusion: There’s need for physiotherapists to educate medical residents about fields of physiotherapy, treatment modalities and evaluative procedures through continuing education programs.

Awareness about Physiotherapy among General Public - A Cross Sectional Survey Analysis

Background and Objectives: Physiotherapy is a field of medicine which deals with maximizing human functioning by treating structural and functional impairments. Although there is an increased knowledge about physiotherapy among healthcare providers, there is still lack of awareness evident among the general public. It is found that the quack practitioners and fake courses utilize this gap for malpractice. This cross-sectional survey analysis tries to identify the level of awareness among physiotherapy in general public. Methods: People above 20 years of age and has the access to internet facility are provided with online survey questions. The answers were collected from them on the same day. The data collected from the online survey was collected and documented in spreadsheet. The data was analysed descriptively and analysed accordingly. Result: A total of 346 people participated the study. It was found that more than 60% of the respondents are aware of the profession and treatments provided by the therapists. There is a lack of awareness in the public regarding physiotherapy because 4.6% of the respondents consider it as massage therapy whereas 9.1% consider physiotherapists as yoga trainers. 70 participants responded that physiotherapists are eligible to prescribe medications. 10.2% of them are unaware of the preventive aspect of diseases with physiotherapy. Conclusion: We suggest the use of available resources including social media to increase the awareness among the general public, living in both in rural and urban areas. It is imperative to take measures by professional bodies to initiate the formation of a central regulatory body in controlling malpractice in this professional field.

Perception and Awareness of Physiotherapy in Junior College Students

Introduction: Physiotherapy is an emerging field in healthcare with innumerable benefits and its demand continues to increase. Often asked what physical therapy is and what does a physiotherapist do? It is very difficult to restrict its definition to a few words since the profession is holistic in approach. The junior college students are eligible to pursue Bachelor of Physiotherapy degree. It is important to have awareness regarding the profession that is related to their field of interest. Method: The cross sectional study was undertaken with the help of Google form which was distributed to 280 junior college students with biology as elective subject. Data was collected and statistically analyzed. Results: 97.1% know physiotherapy as a health care profession. 53.9% think that they need a referral from a doctor to visit a physiotherapist. Most of them got the information about the field from their relatives and doctors. 73.6% will consider it as a profession. Conclusion: This study concludes that there is high awareness among the students of junior college but the perception about the field is varied.
