USING E-LEARNING TO ENHANCE EFL STUDENTS' PERFORMANCE

Even with a lockdown of all educational institutions, students are not left out from enhancing their learning needs. The Senate of Albaha University immediately ordered the shift to elearning using Rafid (an e-learning program installed by the Deanship of E-learning and Information Technology). Therefore, this study was aimed at investigating the use of elearning to enhance EFL Saudi students' performance. It was performed using a historical and descriptive-analytical approach to study the difficulties faced by students and teachers as well as evaluate how this program can help improve students' performance and the approach that can be used to suitably tackle the same. Two questionnaires were each distributed to 39 (27 males and 12 females) students and 18 teachers who work in the English department. The most important conclusion from this study is that it is easy to launch a program using a mixed in-class (traditional learning) method alongside an e-learning program that involves video conferences and virtual classes along with other related activities. It is recommended that the teachers' role and students' motivation to succeed are prioritized. However, similar studies that involve a greater sample size and varied departments are necessary for the future as this study was limited to the English department.
Teaching of English in Saudi Arabia (KSA) is on top priority these days. Linguists, researchers, pedagogues and teachers have different perceptions and views regarding the approaches/methods/techniques of teaching of English in EFL/ESL classrooms. In today's modern learning scenario, it is believed that appropriate utilization of sophisticated tools of e-learning has generally been recommended in order to yield best possible results in a given situation. It is found that many students are found indifferent towards learning the target language (English). Different reasons are attributed to this situation. However, in order to overcome learning difficulties and motivate the concerned learners it is suggested that the students should be well involved in the teaching/learning activities. Online resources in particular can catch the attention of even a passive learner. While ascertaining the effectiveness of e-learning in general, the following aspects were also taken into account: relevance of e-learning, utilization of e-resource, e-training for the teachers etc. The effectiveness has been measured on account of the observation, responses of the questionnaires, experiment on the sample. The findings of the study are hopefully going to be effective and useful in the current practice of teaching English.
The use of e-learning in foreign language learning: A Case Study of Undergraduate EFL Students

This research paper is intended to shed light on the use of e-learning in learning and more particularly in foreign language learning by EFL students in higher education either to support the process of their traditional learning or for any other independent learning purposes. The aim is to identify how e-learning is used, the various existing e-learning strategies that students prefer to learn with and the extent to which EFL students are satisfied with the support offered by e-learning to assist the process of EFL learning. To answer these queries, a quantitative method is adopted for the collection of data using online tools in the creation and the administration of the questionnaire to the respondents. The findings of the study demonstrate that students usually use e-learning as it helps them to develop many language skills including communication skills, problem solving skills besides the four language skills. It has been shown also that students are highly satisfied with the use of e-learning which is usually used by traditional learning students to fulfill the missing gaps.
The Effect of E-Learning on Students’ Achievement in Universitas Potensi Utama

It is believed that internet helps people to do better and faster. It has been used globally in almost every aspects of life. In education, internet is known as the golden key to intelligence, since it offers unlimited resource. It can be learning media in the classroom or while self-learning. Considered as an international language, English is used as main tool of communication on internet. It acts as the language of the instructions and language of the users. It is interesting to analyze its use by students in a developing country like Indonesia. In fact, Indonesia is one of the countries with millions internet users. As a result, e-learning becomes an option to deal with teaching learning process, especially for students of English department. By using internet, they can master certain topics and English themselves better. This study is quantitative research using pre-experimental design. It is aimed to analyze the effect of e-learning on achievement of students in Universitas Potensi Utama. The research result of this study was calculated by using Wilcox on test in which pvalue is 0.462 and p> 0.05 which means the Null hypothesis is accepted. So it is concluded that there is no significant difference between e-learning and traditional learning. However, students have positive perceptions on e-learning because they argue that it can make them highly motivated to learn more about the subject.
E-Learning as a Platform in Studying English Among Efl Learners: Benefits and Barriers

This paper presents research findings on the benefits and barriers of E-learning in the study of English among EFL learners. The topic of this research was students from Department of English Education, Universitas Kuningan, and it was carried out using a qualitative design. An observation checklist and an interview were used to collect data. The study's findings revealed that using E-learning to study English has several benefits, including the flexibility of time and place, easy access to a wealth of information, the ability to facilitate relationships between learners through the use of discussion forums, and the ability to learn at one's own pace. And E-learning also has a numerous barriers in studying English such as, the lack of internet access/WIFI, a software barrier, learners are not enough excited to study English using E-learning, socially disconnected, weak levels of student engagement and students are illiterate and uneducated in the use of modern technologies. ...

The aim of this study is to do a research on the effects of e-learning and sub-categories such as :internet ;Web-based English learning and computer-assisted language learning(CALL)on language learning .Before growing prevalence of Word Wide Web (www);people use emails for language learning and teaching (LL/LT).In network-based language learning (NBLL);people use computer-based educational activities. The main advantage of e-learning is that it increases the engagement; attendance and motivation of students which are requisite for learning .By advent of Web and internet; English learning (EL) improved because internet had its own language and logic and was not limited to one culture. Indeed ;learning English via internet challenges traditional from of learning. Internet is a virtual English environment. People become autonomous by using internet and they can independent from books and teacher such as chartrooms and mass media which increase the oral proficiencies of learners. the use of mass media such as books and manuscripts and internet media (like blogs; message boards; podcasts; and video sharing ) are another faces of e-learning .Although using mass media and internet media are challenging and time consuming. They provide teacher and students with creative and practical ideas.
The Use of E-Tools in Learning English by Efl Students at Yarmouk University

The objective of this paper was to investigate English as foreign language students at Yarmouk University engagement in using e-learning tools in learning the English language. This study was conducted in Jordan. This mixed-method approach comprised 30 English Language and Literature students in their 1st Year of study selected randomly. This study used a single research instrument that included a 16 items observation checklist. The elicited data were analyzed using textual analysis coding and SPSS, complemented by descriptive statistical analysis of the questionnaire responses. The findings indicated that past experiences relevant influenced EFL Jordanian undergraduate students at Yarmouk University's use of e-learning tools / MOOCs when learning the English language.
Using E-Learning in the English for Academic Purposes Course

The submitted paper focuses on the English for Academic Purposes course, developed within a university e-learning project as an online course. The course, based on the needs of the English Major students (writing up a thesis in English and defending it orally), was expected to support developing academic skills, language, critical thinking and autonomy. The paper discusses the data gathered from the students´ responses to the questionnaires before and after the piloting phase of the project. The conclusions related to the effectiveness of such a course on the development of communicative skills in English required for study purposes in formal education systems will be analyzed and discussed in the end.

In some state universities in Turkey, students are given English preparatory education for a year and in addition to formal education they receive in the classroom environment, they also have online education embedded with into their formal education as an extra opportunity provided ge nerally by online platforms. Within e-learning, students have online practice in relation to language areas such as grammar and vocabulary together with language skills except for speaking. Although learners have online course to support their formal class performances, the effect of online course on their overall success at preparatory classes is not clear.
