ABSTRACT Understanding the dynamics of waste disposal behavior within the University of Ibadan is crucial for improving environmental management on campus. Waste management remains a pressing issue as the university generate large volumes of solid waste, including paper, plastics, organic waste, and hazardous materials from laboratories and clinics. The improper disposal of these wastes poses serious environmental and health risks. The study aimed to investigate environmental management and waste disposal behaviour in the University of Ibadan. The findings revealed that disposal of waste in the university hall of residence were not properly done, there is improper segregation of waste in most of the hostel and it was further observed that most of the waste disposal point were not manage properly. It was also shown that most of the university hall of residence don’t have a well conducive toilet for the students and there is not proper channel of waste water from the bathroom. Furthermore, it was revealed that there are unpleasant smells around the hostel which are coming mostly from the toilets and through the improper waste stored around the hostels and lastly, it was revealed from abdusalam postgraduate hall of residence to have a fascinating environment at the entrance but the back and the surroundings of the hostel were not properly maintained. Based on the findings it was concluded that challenges such as inadequate waste segregation, insufficient awareness programs, and non-compliance by some members of the university community still exist. Its therefore recommended amongst others that conducting workshops, seminars, and awareness campaigns to educate the university community on the importance of proper waste disposal and environmental conservation, establishing partnerships with recycling companies and create awareness campaigns to encourage students and staff to recycle materials like paper, plastics, and metals and school management should regularly assess the effectiveness of current waste management practices and adjust strategies as needed to improve outcome.
