Contributions théoriques de Nicos Poulantzas pour l’analyse de l’extrême droite contemporaine (original) (raw)

Abstract

The aim of this article is to discuss the reaches and limits of Nicos Poulantzas’ theory for understanding the strengthening of the contemporary far-right. To do so, we make a critical exposition of the concepts of fascism and authoritarian statism as elaborated by the author within a process of re-elaboration of his wider theory of state and power. Our main argument is that N. Poulantzas’ analysis of authoritarian statism anticipates in a rich and complex way the result of decades of neoliberal hegemony that consolidated mechanisms of exception within democratic state forms. However, especially after the 2007-2008 crisis, mass reactionary movements, rooted mainly in the intermediate classes, have reorganised themselves and provoked even more destabilising effects on the political scene. Without proposing exhaustive analyses, we indicate common features of this process in countries like Bolivia, Brazil, France, Italy and USA. Although there are many specificities, the reorganization of the far-right at the international level requires recovering and updating the theory of fascism.
