Characterization and Physicochemical Evaluation of an Herbal Anti-Acne Cream
The main anti-acne medicines including retinoids, systemic and topical antibiotics and hormones have several severe side effects. According to the literature, it is expected that Calendula officinalis, Rosa canina, Zataria multiflora and Trigonella foenum graecum which have antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant effects, and Glycin max that have phytosterogenic property, heal the inflamed lesions of the disease. The purpose of the present study was to formulate and clinically evaluate an anti-acne cream using the extract of the above mentioned plants.A general formula of a cleansing cream containing bees wax, spermaceti, borax, liquid paraffin and water was considered and then corrected. The best formula was chosen according to its physicochemical properties. The stability of the formulation was evaluated. After diagnosis of acne vulgaris, the number of inflamed lesions and severity of the disease were determined. After two weeks of administration of the coded formulations, the process of improvement and possible complications were reviewed. If necessary, the treatment was continued for another two weeks. Finally, the patients were examined for the number of lesions and the severity again. The significance of data was analyzed statistically using SPSS. The final product was water in oil cream with suitable appearance and acceptable physico-chemical stability. Clinical trial results were significantly illustrated the effectiveness of the formulation mainly against papular and pustular lesions; disease severity and acne-induced inflammation, when compared to placebo. Previous researches have shown the presence of steroid saponins in Trigonella foenum graecum that make it a good anti-inflammatory agent. Also, anti-oxidant and anti-microbial effect of the other above mentioned plants are reported. Considering the results of the present study, when compared with placebo, a formulation containing the mixed extract of the plants has a good efficacy in the treatment of acne vulgaris by reduction of the number of lesions and inflamed area.
Formulation and evaluation of herbal anti-acne moisturizer

The moisture content present in human skin makes it look young and the use of moisturizer results in fastening the moisture with a surface film of oil. Acne vulgaris is one of the most commonly seen diseases among the youth. The present study is focused on the use of herbs as moisturizer for acne treatment. The anti-acne moisturizer was formulated from herbal crude extracts and investigated the physico-chemical parameters as well as antibacterial activity of the formulation. The study revealed that ethanol extract of Andrographis paniculata, Glycyrrhiza glabra, Ocimum sanctum, Azadiracta indica and Green tea possessed the potential for inhibiting acne. It was observed that the optimal formula of anti-acne moisturizer was satisfactorily effective to control acne inducing bacteria i.e., Staphylococcus epidermis and Propionibacterium. The physico-chemical parameters of the formulation were also optimal with no signs of irritation.

Acne vulgaris is a chronic inflammatory disorder of the pilosebaceous unit that affects the major oil gland-containing areas, such as the face, back, and trunk. It involves increased sebum production and hair follicles abnormally desquamate as a result of rising androgen levels that coincide with puberty. It is generally characterized by, the formation of seborrhea, comedones, inflammatory papules, pastures, nodules, and lesions. Propionibacterium acnes and Staphylococcus epidermidis have been identified as bacteria that cause acne inflammation by generating pus. Staphylococcus aureus contributes to causing inflammation in acne. Herbal formulations have growing demand in the world market So, the current research focuses on developing and assessing an herbal face wash against acne vulgaris and its etiologic agent. The ethanolic extract of Turmeric (rhizomes), Neem (leaves), Black pepper (fruit), and Nutmeg (fruit) was prepared by using a maceration process and formulated into a topical gel. The plants have been used in the formulation the having good anti-microbial, anti-oxidant, and anti-inflammatory activity. The gel was formulated with different concentrations of the extract by dispersion method and the prepared formulation has been evaluated for several parameters like odor, color, appearance, consistency, pH, spreadability, washability, skin irritancy, and antimicrobial activity. The agar well diffusion method was used to test in-vitro antibacterial activity against P. acnes, S. epidermidis, and S. aureus. The produced formulation's-zones of inhibition were compared with a conventional antibiotic (Clindamycin) or herbal formulation.

Acne by definition is multifactorial chronic inflammatory disease of pilosebaceous units. Propionibacterium acnes and Staphylococcus epidermidis are considered as the major skin bacteria that cause the formation of acne. Although acne does not pose serious threat to general health, it is one of the most socially distressing conditions especially for adolescents. The objective of this study was to design a product to treat Acne with purely herbal actives as an effective and safe alternative to harmful antibiotics. For this purpose three essential oils and two herbal extracts having anti-microbial properties were selected. These were incorporated in a Gel Base in different concentrations and the in vitro antibacterial activity for the different formulations (F1, F2, F3) was studied against Propionibacterium acnes (P. acnes) and Staphylococcus epidermidis (S.epidermidis), a causative organism for Acne vulgaris using Agar Well Diffusion method. All the formulations showed satisfactory Anti-microbial activity with Formulation F3 showing highest activity. It was then subjected to stress testing for three months at various temperatures. The samples were found to be stable after three months of stability studies and showed satisfactory antibacterial activity against Propionibacterium acnes and Staphylococcus epidermidis at the end of the stress testing studies. Thus it was concluded that the formulated Herbal Anti Acne Gel with natural actives can be used effectively for treating acne on skin.

Preparation and Evaluation of Poly Herbal Anti-Acne Cream
The present study was to prepare and evaluate the polyherbal anti-acne cream comprising natural plants such as Curcuma longa, Aloe vera and Cucumis sativus. Different types of formulations oil in water (O/W) · herbal cream namely Fonn'ulation 1 to Formulation 4 were formulated by incorporating different concentrations of Curcuma longa, Aloe vera and Cucumis sativus from powdered form. The finished formulations give a pale yellowish colour cream. The evaluations qf all formulations were done on different parameters like pH, texture changes and c~lour changes to examine the physical stability of formulations in which these tests were conducted for 10 days at cool temperature of 5°C, for 10 days in room temperature of 35°C and for 10 days in elevated temperature of 40°C. The antibacterial and anti-inflammatory potential of natural, plant-derived compounds has been reported in many studies. Emerging evidence indicates that plant-derived essential oils and/or their major compounds may represent a plausible alternative treatment for acne, a prevalent skin disorder in both adolescent and adult populations. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to develop and subsequently analyze the antimicrobial activity of a new multi-agent, synergic formulation based on plant-derived antimicrobial compounds (i.e., eugenol, β-pinene, eucalyptol, and limonene) and anti-inflammatory agents for potential use in the topical treatment of acne and other skin infections. During the puberty, an imbalance of internal constituents and hormonal balance may cause many skin problems. Acne is found as a most common skin problem. The current proposal aims to unfold the potential benefits of coriander to combat acne problems. Medicinal plants are used all over the world to treat various diseases due to its variety of phytochemical constituents. Ideally, topical therapy is the primary treatment for many skin diseases. Among the various topical formulations, face scrub has been considered as a potential vehicle due to its non-sticky nature, stability and greater aesthetic value. The objective of this proposed study was to develop a herbal topical facial scrub formulation containing Coriandrum sativum to treat acne and serve as a safe, effective and alternative therapy to the current conventional harmful antibiotics. Extracts of the selected plant were incorporated into a cream base and evaluated for its physicochemical properties such as pH, spreadability and antibacterial activity against S. epidermis. The physicochemical evaluation of the developed formulation showed no lumps along with easy washability, good spreadability and neutral pH. The study results concluded that the ethanolic extract of Coriandrum sativum in a cream base system is an appropriate formulation for the for topical therapy of acne vulgaris.
Elucidating Anti-Acne Properties of a Novel Herbal Moisturizer

Acne vulgaris is most common dermatological condition that affects more than 70% of teenagers and more than 10% of adults. The moisture content of human skin makes it appear young and primary function of moisturizer is to avoid the dehydration by preventing the moisture loss. Natural therapies are more suitable and they are more reliable with less or no side effects. The current research focused on the use of herbs for treating acne vulgaris as a moisturizer. This research focused on the use of Azadirachta indica, Curcuma longa, and Ocimum sanctum to prepare the formulation, Azadiracta indica, Ocimum sanctum and Curcuma longa possessed the significant capability for inhibiting acne. The antimicrobial activity was evaluated against the Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis and Propionibacterium by disc diffusion method. Prepared formulations were tested for physical parameters such as pH, spreadability, viscosity and color. Formulation studies was found to optimum for all parameters. The study showed the anti-acne moisturizer was significantly effective in controlling the bacteria which cause acne, i.e. Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis and Propionibacterium. From this research, can be inferred that formulated herbal anti-acne moisturizer was related with a substantial decrease in the growth of microbes that causes acne.
