A Cross Sectional Study for Assessment of the Pattern of Partial Edentulism in Various Municipalities of Kavre District (original) (raw)
Journal of Nepalese Prosthodontic Society
Introduction: Partial edentulism refers to missing one or more natural teeth but not all. Classifying the partial edentulous arches is necessary as it helps in treatment planning, designing and recognition of prosthetic support for removable partial denture. The main aim of this study was to access patterns of partial edentulism among patients and determine its association with socio-demographic parameters. Methods: Patients from various municipalities of Kavre district were selected for the study. Total of 206 patients were selected. The study was divided into two part. Questionnaire related to demographic data and intraoral examination to evaluate the pattern of partial edentulism according to Kennedy's Classification and Applegate's rule. The chi-square test was used to determine the association between Socio-demographic variables and pattern of partial edentulism. Statistical evaluation will be done using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS 20.0), the level...

Replacement of missing teeth and the associated structures are done with the help of artificial prosthesis. One of the most common complications of the denture is the fracture. There are numerous factors contributing to the fracture of denture. The aim of the study was to evaluate the prevalence of broken complete denture among completely edentulous patients. This retrospective study included patients who reported with complete edentulism from July 2019 to March 2020 in a dental hospital. The case records of all patients were retrieved and details were recorded. Variables such as age, gender, status of the denture whether fractured or not were also extracted from the case records. Data was tabulated and statistically analysed using IBM SPSS version 20.0 and results were obtained. Descriptive and chi square analysis was done to get the association among age, gender and the broken denture.
Completely Edentulous Patients. Part 1: Morphological Features of the Upper and Lower Jaw
Journal of IMAB - Annual Proceeding (Scientific Papers)
Aim: The aim of the present research is to characterize the morphological features of the upper and lower jaws in cases of completely edentulous patients. Materials and methods: For the purpose of this study, 96 patients aged 49-88 were examined between 2016-2019. The research was conducted during the practical classes in prosthetic dental medicine and oral and maxilla-facial surgery at the Faculty of Dental Medicine, Medical University - Sofia. The study methods included an individual interview, observation, palpation, and clinical and laboratory measurements. The results were collected in pre-made patient cards. The investigated variables were age, gender, stage of atrophy, the morphological features of the alveolar ridge, and the total period of edentulism and denture usage. Results:The results of the research showed that the second degree of atrophy is the most prevalent condition for both jaws. The third degree of atrophy was associated with the lower jaw but rarely occurred in...

Objectives Tooth loss is a phenomenon associated with structural and functional changes, with a negative influence on the oral and general health of an individual. Removable dental prosthesis is commonly fabricated as treatment for tooth loss. However, the perceptions and experiences of individuals during the transition from a dentate to a partially or completely edentulous state and their acceptance of the denture are largely ignored. The objective of this study was to explore the perceptions and experiences during the transition from a dentate state to being partially or completely edentulous in the Indian population. Methods Fifteen individuals wearing partial or complete denture prosthesis were interviewed in depth using open-ended questions. These interviews were recorded using a voice-recording device. They were then transcribed, and a coding process was applied using the thematic framework approach to qualitative analysis. Findings Five themes emerged, namely: (i) Transition ...
