the notion of a Final Bronze Age was in danger of disappearing from historiography due to the unrestrained restructuring of chronologies.>' This beginning of a new stage in Tartessus research will cause some topics and historical idealizations to be left behind, which have always been based on myth. However, it was never able to solve the problems originated by this reality, still receiving a multifocal view.°* We only address one of these views here, given the importance of its approach-in particular, the view proposed by Alvarez Marti-Aguilar®? on the Tartes- sus concept, both at a historiographical level and conceptual one. So, due to the wide range of options that currently exist regarding what Tartessus means and represents, this author would like to maintain a new line, where the name of Tartessus includes not just the local element, but other Eastern communities, which would explain the »invisibility of Phoenicians in the oldest Greek sources about the South of the Iberian Peninsula« which Alvarez Marti-Aguilar notes is the »consequence of a lack of interest, more or less intentioned, by Greek sources. But the reason may be much simpler, and Peninsular Phoenicians are in fact registered in sources, but not under that name«.* This is how we include what we could consider as basic blocks for the understanding of the protohistory in Andalusia in this brief synthesis. We also need to keep in mind the archaeological and, therefore, interpreting the plurality this region shows. The three problems addressed above include: the possibility of the existence of a period in the Final Bronze characterized by a local feature which was influenced by colonization; the existence of a previous stage to these contacts which historiography was determined to define as precolonization; and finally, a short view to new issues regarding the First Iron Age, able to shake foundations supporting this complex history. From this point onwards we can proceed by facilitating synthesis work which helps to order, understand, and clarify the chaos existing in the historiographical past of our archaeology. This can be done by building a solid basis to consolidate our future contributions.
