Animals have an important place in Turkish lifestyle and culture. Animal names also have an important place in Dede Korkut stories. For example, the place of the horse in the life of the Turks is too great to be met by any other existence. Bamsı Beyrek states the value of the horse in the life of the Turks by saying, “At demezem sana, kardaş derem, kardaşumdan yeg”, for the horse that awaits him until he comes out of the dungeon. Many animal motifs are used in Dede Korkut stories. The elements symbolized by these animal names sometimes appear as a friend, sometimes as a comrade in arms, and sometimes as a motif representing power. Therefore, these stories are very important for the Turkish world. These stories, which are among the important language texts of Old Oghuz Turkish, are among the important sources that reflect the Turkish language, literature, culture and philosophy. When these epic stories, which have the features of Old Oghuz Turkish, are compared in detail with Kazakh, common patterns attract attention. In this study, animal names of Turkish origin in Dede Korkut stories will be identified and their situation in historical Turkish dialects will be explained. The situation of the identified animal names, how they are reflected in the vocabulary of Kazakh and in which meaning they are used will be stated. In this direction, the sitution of animal names in Dede Korkut stories in Kazakh will be discussed. The findings obtained in the study are stated in the form of items in the "Results" section and the status of the animal names in question is shown.
