Abstract

Games are at the heart of the activities loved and carried out by children. The children accept them as serious tasks, learn and discover the world by them. They form the basis of the children's physical, mental, emotional and social development. This situation is emphasized by the recent research and their benefits on the development of the children are stated. With this motivation, learning and entertainment activities are unified in recent years and they are used in order to learn effectively and permanently. With this motivation, game-based learning approach has become common in education area. It is aimed to have students participated in education activities effectively and had fun in the approach of game-based learning. In this approach, the games are not the purpose but the tool. The game in education is emphasized instead of the education in the game. The games aiming to provide students various knowledge and skills are identified as educational games. It is purposed to develop the students' language, mental, social and physical skills by them. They are chosen, applied and managed by the teachers based on the aims of the lessons, and the age and the level of the students. Active participation of all of the students in the games is expected. It is observed that this approach is effective on each level of the students. Game-based learning approach is also applied in our country. As it is known, new education program applied by 2005 has been prepared based on constructivist approach. In this program, it is aimed to improve students' skills such as language, mental, social, communication, learning, understanding, mental independence. In order to perform this aim, various games take places in the process of learning and teaching lessons. Nowadays, activities and games are benefited from in most lessons
