Automatic cut out two- -way energy billing system using power line communication

Efficient Energy Management System

This paper deals with the implementation of power line network in the field of electricity billing. In present scenario the power line communication is one of the economical ways of communication of data. Even though there are new methods of wireless communication methods, practically it is very much time consuming to install such a system, and also it is highly cost consuming method .But the power lines which already exist and connect every household in a particular area is more advantageous as it does not require any new installation or erection for establishment of communication channel, and thus it is not a time consuming one. One biggest advantage of this system is that it can be readily implemented, unlike the other modern methods. The power line network can also be used for creating emergency response networks. This project eliminates the need for employing EB meter readers and this set of employees can be used elsewhere. The long queues in the billing counter can be avoided by implementing this model. Also the control of the system is fully automated by this technique. The most important feature in this system is the use of digital meters consisting of micro controllers and real time clock, thus eliminating the loss of meter data during power failure.. This paper makes the Indians to use the " Electricity " in an efficient way by introducing " Prepaid electricity billing system " which alters a bit of our existing system .As our current system has a postpaid billing system i.e., we have to pay our electricity bill based on our consumption. This postpaid system doesn't create any awareness to the customer though the electricity bill makes them shock and there is also a possibility of power theft, in addition to that we need a person from Electricity board to take reading at every month, for the payment of bill we have to stand in a queue and another way of payment is through online but it doesn't reach more. In the Prepaid system each house is incorporated with prepaid card holder where each customer is provided with a smart card based on his need one have to recharge it which is similar to mobile recharge. This system creates a general awareness to utilize the power in an efficient manner. Thus in the Prepaid system we have to monitor the number of units consumed by each customer by using power line carrier modem where transmission and reception of data occur in our existing power line and a modified Automatic meter reading.

The foremost problem correlated with Indian power grid system is disproportion of consumption of energy and power generation. The problem faced in this modern era is load shedding and power drop.Cuts lead to discomfort to the consumers. The proposed system comforts the consumers for an optimal use of energy. The system is installed in every homestead and with the help of photovoltaic system solar energy is stored for future use. The system analyses the user data utilization using smart meter. From the analysed data the system will foretell the userbehaviour at that time and maintain battery power for use at the time of peak hours so that this will reduce the utilization from grid during peak hour. The system also maintains back power and uses it during power failure and will prioritize the devices for the utilization of stored power.

" Automatic Billing System for Energy Meter Reading using GSM "

The technology of E-metering (Electronic Metering) has gone through rapid technological advancements and there is increased demand for a reliable and efficient Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) system. the design of a simple low cost wireless GSM energy meter and its associated web interface, for automating billing and managing the collected data globally. The proposed system replaces traditional meter reading methods and enables remote access of existing energy meter by the energy provider. Also they can monitor the meter readings regularly without the person visiting each house. A GSM based wireless communication module is integrated with electronic energy meter of each entity to have remote access over the usage of electricity. A PC with a GSM receiver at the other end, which contains the database acts as the billing point. Live meter reading from the GSM enabled energy meter is sent back to this billing point periodically and these details are updated in a central database. A new interactive, user friendly graphical user interface is developed using Microsoft visual studio .NET framework and C#. With proper authentication, users can access the developed web page details from anywhere in the world. The complete monthly usage and due bill is messaged back to the customer after processing these data. This system also can be used to disconnect the power supply to the house in case of non-payment of electricity bills. A dedicated GSM modem with SIM card is required for each energy meter.

The focus of this study was on the automatic reading of energy meter for billing purposes.[1] This task is accomplished using remote metre readings using GSM technology, which is used for remote readings as and when needed. As a result, there is no need to send somebody to the customer's location to gather manual readings. Smart energy metre (SEM) are these types of metre that can communicate directionally and push data without the utility's intervention. Another advantage of this method is that it can disconnect customer load if it exceeds its predefined load limit by simply sending an SMS to the client once the load is disconnected. Both the utility and the client have access to it.

Electricity is one of the basic requirements of human beings, which is widely used for domestic, industrial, commercial and agricultural purposes. There is great demand for electricity and it is increasing day by day, but now a day what happened actually the method for accessing the data from the energy meter and billing is not up to the mark as well as it is time consuming. It is also required a huge manpower to complete this process. Because of that to reduce this huge manpower as well as complications, we exists this system. Our system provides the electricity readings on an LCD screen as well as can SMS this reading and cost in rupees to the user. A GSM modem is also integrated along with the meter to send alerts to the particular consumer regarding their energy consumption. In case of failure of payment by a consumer the controller can disconnect the power supply of the consumer. In this paper, Indian Power Ministry initiatives to make existing power grids smart by considering SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquistation System) and smart meters at distribution system are discussed. As a result of which Power authorities would have more control on consumers and role of consumers would also change. This would result in reduction of power losses and better utilization of generated power.
