Identification of Underwater Vehicle Hydrodynamic Coefficients Using Model Tests

Predicting the hydrodynamic coefficients of an autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) is important during vehicle design. SUT-2 is an AUV, being developed by the Marine Engineering Research Center of Sharif University of Technology in Iran (MERC). Model tests are done in the marine engineering laboratory towing tank. In this research, hydrodynamic coefficients are calculated using model test results of an autonomous underwater vehicle. Hydrodynamic forces are also analyzed. These coefficients are used for dynamic modeling and autonomous controller design.

Nowadays, simulation of viscoelastic flows at high Weissenberg numbers is one of the most obstacles and important issues for rheologists to observe the rheological properties at sufficiently high weissenberg number. It is well known that the conformation tensor should, in principle, remain symmetric positive definite (SPD) as it evolves in time. In fact, this property is crucial for the well-posedness of its evolution equation. In practice, this property is violated in many numerical simulations. Most likely, this is caused by the accumulation of spatial discretization errors that arise from numerical integration of the governing equations. In this research, we apply a mathematical transformation, the so-called hyperbolic tangent, on the conformation tensor to bound the eigenvalues and prevent the generation of negative spurious eigenvalues during simulations. Simulation of Snow White Sampler in Order to Create a Native Nuclear Treaty System

T he Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO) uses a special detection method to verify activities for the member states of the organization. One of the systems based on these methods, is sampling system of airborne radioactive particles. The radionuclide monitoring is the only technique that provides the forensic or confirmatory evidence that a detected explosion is nuclear in nature. The radionuclide station including air sampler and detection unit, was designed to achieve a detection capability of not less than 90% within approximately 14 days for a 1 kt nuclear explosion in the atmosphere or from venting by an underground or underwater detonation. In this paper, SNOW WHITE ® sampler has been investigated and some technical objections to this type of sampling system have been introduced. Finally, a sampling system that can resolve related technical problems (bugs), have been simulated and some suggestions to using at the treaty have been proposed.

In this study, a hybrid algorithm is presented to tackle multi-variables robust design problem. The proposed algorithm comprises neural networks (NNs) and co-evolution genetic algorithm (CGA) in which neural networks are as a function approximation tool used to estimate a map between process variables. Furthermore, in order to make a robust optimization of response variables, co-evolution algorithm is applied to solve constructed model of process. Results of CGA are compared with genetic algorithm (GA). This algorithm is tested in a case study of open-end spinning process.
