The information security awareness of the Slovakian kindergarten teacher students at starting and finishing the study in higher education

SHS Web of Conferences, 2019

In this paper we have analysed the changing of the kindergarten teacher-education students' awareness of information security at J. Selye University in Slovakia. Because there are sensitive data about children stored in the kindergarten (e.g. home address, parents' details, medical records, etc.), it deeply matters how careful is the data stored. Thorough data protection is important in order to avoid the digitally stored information to be viewable by other persons, who can use them for malicious purposes (e.g. social engineering, kidnapping, murder). This requires appropriate care and protection of storage and handling. In our research we wanted to know what level of information security awareness characterizes the kindergarten teacher-education students, whether they are aware of the basic data protection aspects. We want to see the higher education without any information security course have gained the information security awareness of the kindergarten teacher-education ...

A SecondLook at the Information Security Awareness among Secondary School Students

Thispaperfocuseson identifying and evaluating the available security awareness tools, and later presents a study conducted to assess the level of security awarenessamong Libyansecondary school students covering social networks, passwords, and cyber-bullying. The quantitative methodology is applied via questionnaire in order to assess the students' awareness level. Moreover, qualitative methodology isused inorder toobserve secondary school studentsmanner and behavior whilethey are participating in the training program. The targeted group of this study was Libyan secondary school students in Malaysia, and the sample is composed of ten students aged between 13-18 years old. The findings indicated that even the students show a slight level of awareness, but they still lack practicing the information security correctly. Therefore, a study on secondary school students' awareness level, as well as conducting security training program is crucial to avoid securityrisks.

Impact of education on security practices in ICT

Tehnicki vjesnik - Technical Gazette

Original scientific paper In assuring the security in information technology, user awareness and acquired-user habits are inevitable components, yet they may be qualified as the feeblest ones. As the information technology tries to put its best in providing maximum security, user awareness plays a key-role. Additionally, although the literature provides studies on approaches for teaching information security, there are not many evidences on the impact of education level. Therefore, this study investigates the impact of the education level on user security awareness in using the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) products. For this purpose, a survey was conducted among 433 citizens from different layers of the society. Interestingly, the results indicated that education level has significant impact on all security issues included in the analysis regarding computer usage, web usage and e-mail usage.

Information Security Awareness of Greek Higher Education Students -Preliminary Findings

7th International Conference on Modern Circuits and Systems Technologies (MOCAST), 2018

University students are tomorrow's executives that are expected to progress our world forward. Good Information Security Awareness (ISA) and computer ethics education are crucial for a better future world. In this article a quantitative survey with the use of questionnaires is presented, which was conducted in order to measure a combination of the respondents' knowledge and behavior as regards their ISA. Factors such as the gender, the educational level, and the study program are examined. This study is limited to IT-students of a Greek university. The results of our research have shown that educational level plays a role in ISA and computer ethics, but awareness on many aspects needs to be improved.

An Investigation of University Students' Awareness on Cyber Security

2018

The emergence of various online applications and abundance of exposure to the use of social media nowadays had put users in higher potential to online related risks. Racial abuse, cyber-bullying, online fraud, addiction towards gaming and gambling and pornography are among the risks that online users may be exposed to in their daily life. To protect oneself from these risks, it has to come from self-awareness. This research aims to investigate university students' awareness of cybersecurity. Research data was collected usi ng a set of questionnaire to 142 second-year students in the faculty of education in one of the universities in Malaysia. Descriptive data analysis was done using an SPSS software. The result of this study showed that even though these university students demonstrated a hi gh level of awareness on certain elements in cyber security such as cyber bully, personal information, and internet banking, there are still lacking appropriate knowledge on the aspect of cyber-sex and self-protection. The Effect Of Computer Literacy On Information Security Awareness Of Engineerin Students

Nowadays, information/data theft has been increasing in proportion to the development of technology. Information security has become mandatory due to the desires of people to access the information. Large numbers of computer crimes are committed today. However, the most important factor in ensuring the success of information and system security is the formation of personal awareness. This study aims to determine the level of information security awareness of engineering students who take online courses. Different questions in information, trend, and behavior levels were asked to students to measure their information security awareness. All factors were evaluated according to their severity while determining the levels of awareness of students. This study is applied in Bahcesehir University, Istanbul, in 2012-2013 academic years, on engineering students who take Introduction to Information Technologies course. In this context, this study aims to measure the level of information security awareness of students and increase these levels by planning training activities and education.

Making the Internet a safer place: students' perceptions about Internet security threats

Today's generations of students are among most frequent users of the Internet. During use of the Internet, students' computers are exposed to different types of security threats. To find out more about students' perceptions of this topic, a research at the FHSS in Zagreb was carried out. Results of the research show that respondents successfully recognized most common security threats, however they do not employ all the necessary basic protective measures available to them. They also feel that they are not fully capable of protecting their computers on the Internet, so they need more education in this area.

Cybersecurity Awareness in Online Education: A Case Study Analysis

IEEE Access, 2022

This study presents to what extent Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University students are knowledgeable about cybersecurity in the distance education process. The survey was conducted with a sample of 517 students from all faculties of the university at the undergraduate, graduate, and PhD levels. Our research study shows that although huge numbers of cyberattacks are occurring around the world, the students did not have any knowledge about cybersecurity and the effects of cyberattacks overall. An analysis of cybersecurity awareness was undertaken by asking questions focused on malicious software, password security, and social media security. Although we live in an age of technology where our entire lives are indexed to the internet through the distance education process, it has been determined that students have a weak cybersecurity awareness. It has been further concluded that cybersecurity education should be given to prevent the students from becoming a victim of cyberattacks, helping them to use the internet more effectively.

Cyber Crime and Cyber Security Awareness Among Students: A Comparative Study in Israel and Slovenia

Issues In Information Systems, 2019

In this paper we present the results of a survey that examined the attitude of users to cyber crime as well as their awareness of cyber security threats. The study was conducted among Israeli and Slovenian students. The study results reveal significant differences in the level of cyber awareness between evaluated groups of cyber users in both countries. The results may serve as the initial phase of a practical education approach aimed at evaluating the impact of cyber education on the level of cyber awareness of individuals. The study implication can also be utilized for the process of development courses to enhance individuals' awareness of cyber hazards and to reduce the level of cyber victimization amongst users. Finally, the paper's findings contribute to a better understanding of which factors are involved in the cyber awareness gap.
