Abstract
In a critical examination of Klinger’s Urteilen, we have attempted to present this substantial book as well as to focus on certain crucial passages. In the process, we examine (I) the book’s historicalphilosophical implications, (II) the starting point of Klinger’s presentation, namely Herodotus’ Historien, (III) Klinger’s theoretical concept of positing and measurement (»Setzung und Anmessung«), by means of which he attempts to capture the structure of judgment, and finally (IV) his discussion of the idea of the aesthetic judgment (»ästhetisches Urteil«), the peak of Klinger’s study. Along the way, we focus once again on Kant, Nietzsche and Heidegger who are crucial theoreticians for Klinger, but through whom we will also be able to scrutinise his book with a critical
