Analysis Of The Management Of Productive Zakat At The Muhammadiyah, City Of Medan

Proceeding International Seminar of Islamic Studies, 2020

The purpose of this study is to look at the productive zakat fund system in the Muhammadiyah zakat institution in Medan. Management of zakat is currently still causing controversy. Where, the distribution of zakat funds is still less effective. Zakat management institutions show a lack of transparency and accountability in performance. The principle of justice is something that must be upheld. Where, justice in question is able to manage and distribute zakat funds appropriately and quickly. The implementation of zakat in alleviating poverty and improving the economy should be immediately relocated through improving the performance of the zakat institution itself. Because the role of zakat on the lives of the mustahik is very strategic if managed wisely. Developing productive zakat which is supposed to be one alternative in alleviating poverty, is now a funding given to the community. In fact, productive zakat is the provision of funds to mustahik or poor people, in economic development, not the provision of funding which must be returned to the zakat institution. So for that, here the researcher wants to see the concept of productive zakat giving at the Muhammadiyah zakat institute in Medan. This research will be carried out for 3 months and will conduct observations and conduct interviews directly at the Muhammadiyah Zakat Institute in Medan. To achieve the results of this research, this research uses a descriptive qualitative research method in which the researcher is directly involved actively meeting, observing, and interviewing participants to uncover the strategies of managing productive zakat in poverty alleviation, with a case study of the Muhammadiyah Zakat Institute, Medan City.

Causes of Low Collection and Utilization of Zakat at the National Amil Zakat Agency of Polewali Mandar Regency

Zakat has two dimensions in the life of Muslims, the first is the dimension of worship because zakat is an order from Allah SWT and Rasulullah for Muzakki, and the second dimension is the human aspect because zakat has a connection with social and economic values. Zakat can be one of the alternatives in alleviating poverty and encouraging the economy of the community and even the State, which is given to Mustahik. Especially for the people of Polewali Mandar Regency, the potential for zakat in Polewali Mandar Regency is quite large, but the management has not been maximized so that the function of zakat cannot have a significant impact on society. The purpose of this research is to identify and provide solutions to the causes of the non-optimal management of zakat in Baznas KabPolewali Mandar. This type of research is qualitative and phenomenological approach, and normative combined with the literature. The results of this study show that some of the causes of the low management of zakat in Baznas Kab. Polewali Mandar are due to the lack of a legal system, low public awareness, lack of UPZ, lack of digitalization of zakat, topographical factors, and Amil's professionalism. By identifying the causes and providing solutions to Baznas Kab.Polewali Mandar is expected to be able to contribute more to the community in optimizing zakat.

Factors Affecting Zakat Payment Through Institution of Amil: Muzakki’s Perspectives Analysis (Case Study of Badan Amil Zakat Nasional [Baznas])

AL-INFAQ, 2015

As the third pillar of Islam, zakat has an important role from both social and economic perspectives. Socially, zakat can build brotherhood and sense of belonging among Muslims. Beside purifies the wealth, zakat also can reduce the social gap between the have and the have not. Zakat empirically can alleviate the poverty as well as generate prosperity of the ummah which was realized during the Golden Age of Umar bin Abdul Azis Caliph. At that period, zakat was controlled, collected, and disbursed by trustable and professional amil officers. In Indonesia, the potential of zakat is promising. This condition is indicated by reaching 3.4 percent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) that equals to 217 trillion Rupiahs (BAZNAS and FEM, 2011). Unfortunately, the realization of the zakat collection is still far behind its potential. In 2010, zakat collection was only 1.5 trillion Rupiahs or less than 1 percent from the expectation. This fact shows that the awareness to pay zakat through institutions in Indonesia is still poor. Therefore, this paper attempts to analyze the factors that determine muzakki to pay zakat through the Institutions by taking case study of Badan Amil Zakat Nasional (BAZNAS), as the National Zakat Board in Indonesia. One hundred respondents from zakat payers through BAZNAS and one hundred respondents from non-institution zakat payers have been selected as the sample of the research. The respondents have been deeply interviewed on December 2009 to February 2010. The samples were determined using purposive convenience sampling (non probability sampling). Descriptive statistics, IPA (Importance Performance Analysis) and CSI (Customer Satisfaction Index) methods have been used as analytical methods.

This is a descriptive quantitative research using primary data by obtained directly through interviews with informants at LAZ which was selected through purposive sampling technique. The results of this study indicate that ZISWAF donors in Palembang City are still dominated by the general public/individuals with the types of donations dominated by infaq and sodaqoh. Another finding is the highest ZISWAF distribution in Palembang City is in the education program and the ZISWAF recepients are mostly absorbed in health and education programs. The limitation of this study is the sample of research subject is small. because there are still very few LAZs in Palembang which are officially registered to BAZNAS Sumsel. The results of this study are useful for BAZNAS Sumsel and LAZ in expanding the collection segment, increasing the types of donations and distribution as well as improving management operations.
