Im Kanon Nichts Neues? Feministische Überlegungen zur Philosophiegeschichtsschreibung (original) (raw)
Herausforderungen der Philosophiegeschichtsschreibung, 2024
Abstract
The historiography of philosophy has been consistently criticized by feminist scholars, who argue that it is incomplete and biased, often overlooking female philosophers and devaluing minoritarian perspectives (cf. Witt/ Shapiro). This feminist perspective perceives the historiography of philosophy and its methods as problematic, notably in the critique of the philosophical canon. This essay aims to provide a brief exploration of various feminist critiques of the philosophical canon. It examines the impulses, suggestions, and instructions for reconstitution offered by these critiques, as well as the demands they articulate. The analysis encompasses challenges to philosophy’s self-understanding as an objective and universal discourse and explores the potential for philosophical practices beyond entrenched notions of authority, the cult of genius, and authorship.
