Face Recognition and Face Liveness
2014
Spoofing attack is a threat for biometric authentication systems. Liveness detection aims at recognition of human physiological activities as the liveness indicator to prevent spoofing attack. Facial photograph of valid user is the most common way to spoof face recognition systems as photo attack is the cheapest and easiest spoofing approach. Antispoof problem is a challenging task before face recognition could be applied. Video spoofing is another big threat to face recognition systems as it is very similar to live face. It has many physiological clues that photo does not have. Human is able to distinguish a live face and a photograph without any effort, since human can very easily recognize many physiological clues of liveness. The tasks of computing these clues are complicated for computer, even impossible for some clues under the unconstrained environment. This paper is an effort to explore future aspects for face liveness detection. Various existing face recognition methods and...
A Case Study on Face Spoof Detection
IRJET, 2022
User authentication is a vital step in protecting information, and facial bio metrics might assist in this regard. Face bio metrics seems to be more natural, simple to use, and less intrusive to humans. Unfortunately, emerging research has revealed that face bio metrics are extremely sensitive to spoofing assaults. A spoofing attack occurs when a person tries to masquerade as someone else by falsifying data and thereby gaining illegitimate access. Inspired by image quality assessment, characterization of printing artifacts, and differences in light reflection, we propose to approach the problem of spoofing detection from texture analysis point of view. This report discusses many types of assaults against visual spectrum facial recognition systems. We propose comprehensive data sets for assessing the susceptibility of recognition systems and the effectiveness of countermeasures. Finally, we give a brief overview of anti-spoofing strategies for visual spectrum face identification, as well as a viewpoint on difficulties that remain unresolved.
Face Liveness Detection : An Overview
International Journal of Scientific Research in Science and Technology, 2021
As the world becomes more and more digitized, the threat to security grows at an alarming rate. The mass usage of technology has garnered the attention and curiosity of people with foul intentions, whose aim is to exploit this use of technology to commit theft and other heinous crimes. One such technology used for security purposes is “Facial Recognition”. Face recognition is a popular biometric technique. Face recognition technology has advanced fast in recent years, and when compared to other ways, it is more direct, user-friendly, and convenient. Face recognition systems, on the other hand, are vulnerable to spoof assaults by non-real faces. To protect against spoofing, a secure system requires liveness detection. This study examines researchers' attempts to address the problem of spoofing and liveness detection, including mapping the research overview from the literature survey into a suitable taxonomy, exploring the fundamental properties of the field, motivation for using liveness detection methods in face recognition, and problems that may limit the benefits.
Insight on face liveness detection: A systematic literature review
International Journal of Electrical and Computer Engineering (IJECE), 2019
To review researcher"s attempts in response to the problem of spoofing and liveness detection, mapping the research overview from the literature survey into a suitable taxonomy, exploring the basic properties of the field, motivation of using liveness detection methods in face recognition, and Problems that may restrain the advantages. We presented a subjected search on face recognition with liveness detection and its synonyms in four main databases: Web of science, Science Direct, Scopus and IEEE Xplore. We believe that these databases are widely inclusive enough to cover the literature. The final number of articles considered is 65 articles. 4 of them where review and survey articles that described a general overview about liveness detection and anti-spoofing methods. Since 2012, and despite of leaving some areas unestablished and needs more attention, researchers tried to keep track of liveness detection in several ways. No matter what their category is, articles concentrated on challenges that faces the full utility of anti-spoofing methods and recommended some solutions to overcome these challenges. In this paper, different types of liveness detection and face anti-spoofing techniques are investigated to keep researchers updated with what is being developed in this field.
A Study of Liveness Detection in Face Biometric Systems
International Journal of Computer Applications, 2014
"Biometrics" refers to the technologies that measure and analyze human body characteristics for security purposes. The need of privacy and security in our daily life leads to this new area. Biometric systems have more accuracy when compared to traditional methods (password, key etc). It identifies and verifies the identity of a person based on one or more physiological and behavioral characteristics. That is Human body as password. The most common physical biometric traits includes fingerprint, face, ear, iris, retina, hand geometry, palmprint, DNA etc. Behavioral biometric traits include signature, gait, key strokes, speech patterns etc. Each biometric has its own strength and limitations and accordingly each biometric is used in identification (authentication) application. This paper concentrates on spoof attack against face recognition system, i.e. in this type of attack a fake biometric can be presented to sensor. This paper discusses about Introduction to The Face biometric system, Spoofing attack in Face recognition system, Liveness detection in face recognition system, Literature survey on Face Liveness detection and conclusion.

An Overview of Face Liveness Detection
International Journal on Information Theory, 2014
Face recognition is a widely used biometric approach. Face recognition technology has developed rapidly in recent years and it is more direct, user friendly and convenient compared to other methods. But face recognition systems are vulnerable to spoof attacks made by non-real faces. It is an easy way to spoof face recognition systems by facial pictures such as portrait photographs. A secure system needs Liveness detection in order to guard against such spoofing. In this work, face liveness detection approaches are categorized based on the various types techniques used for liveness detection. This categorization helps understanding different spoof attacks scenarios and their relation to the developed solutions. A review of the latest works regarding face liveness detection works is presented. The main aim is to provide a simple path for the future development of novel and more secured face liveness detection approach.
Face Recognition with Liveness detection using eye and Mouth Movement
The recent literature on face recognition technology discusses the issue of face spoofing which can bypass the authentication system by placing a photo/video/mask of the enrolled person in front of the camera. This problem could be minimized by detecting the live ness of the person. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a robust liveness detection scheme based on challenge and response method. The liveness module is added as extra layer of security before the face recognition module. The Iiveness module utilizes face macro features, especially eye and mouth movements in order to generate random challenges and observing the user's response on account of this. The reliability of liveness module is tested by placing different types of spoofing attacks with various means, like using photograph, videos, etc. In all, five types of attacks have been taken care of and prevented by our system. Experimental results show that system is able to detect the Iiveness when subjected to all these attacks except the eye & mouth imposter attack. This attack is able to bypass the liveness test but it creates massive changes in face structure. Therefore resultant unrecognized or misclassified by the face recognition module. An experimental test conducted on 65 persons on university of Essex face database confirms that removal of eye and nose components results 75% misclassification.
IRJET-Prevention of Spoofing Attacks in Face Recognition System Using Liveness Detection
Biometric system has gained wide selection of motivations and applications in security domain. Biometric systems relay on the biometric characteristics/data taken from the user for authentication. sadly such biometric information is stolen or duplicated by the imposters/unauthorized users. Most of the biometry systems rely strictly on distinguishing the physiological characteristics of the user. It becomes easier to spoof in these biometric systems with the help of faux biometric it any reduces the dependability and security of biometric system. Spoof fools the system through the method of deception and impersonating others to create out that they're licensed so as to achieve access in to the biometric system. Now a day’s spoofing has become quite common on the net that therefore ends up in determine stealing and fraud. There are several level of spoofing attacks like putting faux biometry on the detector, replay attack, attacking the entrance centre corrupting the intermediator, attacking the application etc. These successively can cut back the extent of security and dependability of biometric system. liveness identification using the facial expression also has been receiving a lot of attention compared to other biometric modalities. prevention of spoof attack in biometric system is done by detecting the liveness of the user with the assistance of native facial expression like eye blinking, lip movement, forehead and chin movement pattern of the face detected with real-time generic web-camera. within the planned work, a good authentication system using face biometric modality by developing the aliveness detection model using the variations within the facial movements.
