I padri conciliari domenicani al Vaticano I (original) (raw)

The subject of this paper is the participation of Dominican fathers at the First Vatican Council. In December 1869 there were 25 Dominican bishops, and 15 of them could go to Rome. One of the 15 died on January 1870, and another one had to go back to his diocese. Another Dominican was ordained as bishop on July 1870 and took part to the last sessions of the Vatican I; the general master of the Order, too, was one of the participants. So, the Dominicans who were present in the Council during 1869-1870 were 17. Among them, six spoke publicly during the sessions: Guidi, Salzano, Ghilardi, GarcĂa Gil, Alemany and Jandel. In the most important votation-the one on the dogmatic constitution Pastor aeternus twelve Domincans were present: eight voted placet iuxta modum and four placet.
