Electronic Commerce Research

Current situation in COVID-19 pandemic as well as the significant digital transformation, where the whole world is being forced to participate, are lead for a wide acceptance to use the mobile payments. The main objective for the current study is to focus on analysing the primary variable "intention to use" through the Apple Wallet mobile payment system "apple wallet app" in United Arab Emirates (UAE), in addition to defining a context and evaluating the various antecedents of its use. The main variables that addressed by the current study are ability to use (skilfulness), perceived usefulness, convenience of the system, perceived risk and the primary variable that mentioned before was intention to use. To conduct the study, we invited 422 respondents to an online survey, and we have used a structural equation modelling analysis. The results indicate that mobile user skilfulness is the variable that most influences the intention to use the proposed payment system, followed by perceived usefulness and convenience of the system, while the perceived risk has a weak negative relationship with intention to use mobile payment via apple wallet app in the light of high Cybersecurity Index in the UAE.

Mobile wallet adoption intention amid COVID-19 pandemic outbreak: A novel conceptual framework

Computers & Industrial Engineering

This research aims to explore adoption intention towards mobile wallet (m-wallet) amid COVID-19 outbreak using mediated-moderation framework. This study, in its uniqueness, utilises the stimulus-organism-response (S-OR) theory as its theoretical base. The study investigated the effect of relative advantage, ease of effort, favourable infrastructure conditions, security considerations, and touch-free transactions on m-wallet adoption. The model includes perceived values as a mediator and perceived critical mass (PCM), promotional benefits (PBs) and users' demographics as moderators for deeper understanding of the phenomenon. A total of 327 responses were collected using purposive sampling method. The results revealed that relative advantage, favourable infrastructure conditions, security considerations and touch-free transactions exert a positive significant effect on m-wallet adoption intention. Further, except for ease of effort, perceived values mediate the association among antecedents and adoption intention and PCM, PBs and age found to be crucial moderators between perceived values and intention. This study enriches the existing literature on the adoption of m-wallet. Practically, this study helps marketers frame strategies to enhance the adoption and usage of m-wallet.

Why do people continue using mobile wallets? An empirical analysis amid COVID-19 pandemic

Journal of Financial Services Marketing

This paper aims to formulate and test a comprehensive model by integrating the strengths of the TAM and IS success model and the addition of two constructs, namely promotional offers and situational influence, to explain the continued usage intention of mobile wallets. Using an online survey, data were gathered from 588 mobile wallet users who had prior experience using mobile wallets for more than six months. The data were examined using the partial least square-structural equation modelling to investigate relationships between variables and test the hypothesised model. The proposed model disclosed 62.6% of the variance in continued usage intention. The situational influence of COVID-19 emerged as the strongest predictor, followed by satisfaction. This study offers valuable insights to service providers and policymakers involved in executing and deploying mobile wallet services. For academicians, this research presents a comprehensive framework that investigates the continued usage of mobile wallets.
