The article examines the peculiarities of the formation of social and civic competence of children of older preschool age by means of musical art. Today, the civic education of children and youth, in the process of which the formation of social and civic competence takes place, is an extremely urgent socio-pedagogical challenge of Ukraine and a promising direction of scientific research, since the active participation of the individual in public life is one of the most important signs of a civilized society, the democratization of political life, a manifestation of the growth of people's civic consciousness, the realization of their civil dignity and rights, which is very relevant in the modern realities of Ukraine. The article points out the great potential of Ukrainian folk art, in particular, folk tales, songs, and proverbs. Attention is paid to the use of musical folklore, which acquaints children with history and folk traditions, increases interest in learning about their native land, fosters love for the Motherland, and helps establish contacts with peers during musical-didactic and moving games.
