The Origins of Hallowe'en (original) (raw)

Sunday Brunch, ABC Radio Canberra, with Kate Midena, 27 October 2024

Abstract

The origins of Hallowe'en lie in the pre-Christian religion of the Celts, and were transplanted to America and Australia when Irish and Scottish migrants arrived in the nineteenth century. However, the modern consumerist festival of Hallowe'en owes more to the commercialization of important dates and the global acceptance of American pop culture in recent decades.
