The Opportunities and Challenges of the Ministry of Health and Medical Education for Improvement of Healthcare System

Introduction: Due to the rapidity and necessity of implanting this plan, the authors did not have enough time to run some preparations. To continue the plan, we need to an understanding of the opportunities and challenges being faced to organizers. Implementation of a healthcare reform, like other plans, had particular problems. Therefore, the aim of this study was to identify the opportunities and challenges of healthcare reform organizers. Materials and Methods: This was an applied research. For collecting the qualitative data, semi-structured interviews with healthcare managers and experts in university hospitals were performed. Sampling was based on purposive method. Data obtained was entered into MAXQDA software and then was analyzed by content analysis approach. Results: The results of the study, which was on opportunities, challenges, threats and strategies to improve the Ministry of Health in the implementation of the health reform plan, led to the formation and identification of 369 primary codes, 13 classes and 3 themes. Conclusion: It is hoped that the results of the study, through identification of opportunities and challenges, can be a useful step in order to provide a framework for monitoring and evaluating the healthcare reform plan as well as being helpful for policy makers and planners in various stages of healthcare reform.

Usability of Mobile Website of the Libraries of Top Medical Sciences Universities in Iran

Background and Aim: One of the essential methods of evaluating academic libraries’ mobile websites is the usability analysis method; websites’ usability means their ease and simplicity of use. This study aims to evaluate the usability of the mobile website of the libraries of top medical universities in Iran. This study aims to evaluate the usability of mobile websites of the libraries of top Iranian universities of medical sciences. Materials and Methods: This study was done by the descriptive-survey method. The study’s statistical population includes mobile websites of the libraries of the top 50 universities of medical sciences in Iran, which have gained the highest rank in universities’ webometrics ranking in January 2019. The tool used in this study was a checklist. Data analysis was performed by descriptive and analytical statistical methods and SPSS software. Results: The data analysis showed that in terms of usability of the mobile websites of university libraries, Kerman, Birjand, and Tehran universities of medical sciences were in the first to third ranks with 89.23%, 84.62%, and 81.54%, respectively. Neishabour, Gonabad, and Semnan universities of medical sciences were the last ranks with 40%, 43.08%, and 44.62%., respectively. The evaluation of the research components showed that “system visibility status,” “assisting the user in identifying, detecting and compensating for errors,” and “guidance and documentation” were in the best situation, and components of “error prevention,” “flexibility and system efficiency,” and “User control and freedom” were in their worst condition. Conclusion: Given the increasing influence and popularity of smart cell phones in the professional life of academics, it is necessary for administrators and designers of mobile websites of academic libraries to consider the applicability and effectiveness of mobile websites of the research community, taking into account the practical findings of the present study.

Evaluation of Internet booking system in Websites of Health Centers Affiliated with Medical Universities in Iran

Internet booking system effectively reduces patient's waiting time and increase patient satisfaction with health care centers, so the rate of using it is increased. The aim of this study was the evaluation of the internet booking websites of the Universities of Medical Sciences in Iran. Method: This study is a descriptive cross-sectional study which was conducted in 2014. Data was collected through a self-designed check list and study of health care center's websites (hospitals and clinics). Excel 2007 software was used to summarize and report data. Results: Findings showed that only 9% of the health care centers in the country using internet booking systems. Rayavaran Company more than other companies has worked in design and implementation of such systems. Also, the mean score of "user friendly" of available websites was 4.4. Among the studied centers, internet booking systems of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences had the best status. Conclusion: Most of the health care centers do not use the internet booking websites. The available websites have the capabilities such as search, getting information, giving tracking code and independent port, and the abilities including change or cancel the appointment and useful links are used less in websites. So, it is suggested that the authorities increase the use of internet booking websites in health care centers in the country.

Medical office management: need, awareness and educational priorities

The management of most clinics and other outpatient centers are by clinicians. However, most clinicians do not educate any management courses and are not familiar with this field of science. This study aimed to study and describes training needs and priorities related to medical office management for clinicians. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study. All physicians affiliated to Academic Center for Education, Culture and Research (ACECR) with experiences of running a medical office in Tehran were invited to took part in the study. The data were collected using a self-designed questionnaire. Descriptive statistics and Friedman test were applied to analyze the data. Results: In all 37 physicians participated in the study. The general needs of medical office management categorized to 27 topics and 7 headlines: financial management, human resources management, medical risk management, non-medical risk management, process management, evaluation and informatics. Respondents were most aware on medical risk management and the least was on informatics. The most important educational needs and priorities for clinicians were 'Medical office informatics', 'human resources management', 'financial management' and 'evaluation'. Conclusion: The study results showed that physicians with experiences of medical office management identified that they need courses on management. Indeed priorties could be indentified with a study bigger sample size and better design.

Survey of Correlation between Ethical Climate and Organizational Commitment from the Viewpoints of Operating Room and Anesthesia Technologists in Hospitals Affiliated to Iran University of Medical Sciences

Introduction: Ethical climate determines how to make decisions in the organization based on ethical criteria leading to employee's satisfaction and quality of service. In a stressful environment of an operating room, the survey of the ethical climate can help to promote surgery properly. Furthermore, organizational commitment is one of the factors which determines the criteria for ethical decision making Objective: This study aimed to determine the correlation between ethical climate and organizational commitment from the viewpoints of operating room technologists and anesthesia technologists in hospitals affiliated to Iran University of Medical Sciences. Material and Methods: This descriptive-analytical cross-sectional study was performed on 161 operating room and anesthesia technologists working in the training hospitals of Iran University of Medical Sciences in 2019 by survey sampling. Data were collected using a questionnaire. The material consisted of three parts including demographic information, the ethical climate of Victor and his colleague, and the organizational commitment of Allen and his colleague. To analyse the data, descriptive and analytical statistics including Mean and Pearson's correlation test were used (SPSS 20) the significance level was considered less than 0.05. Results: The mean age of the subjects was 33.02±7.18 years, ranging from 23 to 53 years old; 71.4% were females; 24.3% had undergraduate education and the rest were college students. The working experience of subjects was at most in the range of 1 to 5 years (41.6%). The most frequent field of specialization was general surgery (21.1%).The strongest ethical climate and organizational commitment were associated with "professionalism" and "continued commitment", respectively. The result of Pearson's test showed that there is a positive and significant relationship between ethical climate and organizational commitment. (P=0.002 and R=0.237). Moreover, a significant relationship was found between its dimensions (P<0.05) Discussion and Conclusion: The results of present study help hospital managers to identify the ethical climate and organizational commitment, administer curricula to institutionalize ethics, and ultimately enhance organizational commitment and sustain human capital.

Explaining the Causal Model of Leadership Challenges of professional Learning Communities at high Schools in Urmia

One of the important factors in the professional development of teachers is the creation of professional learning communities at schools that the important role of school principals in leading the professional learning communities is not hidden for anyone. Therefore, empowering principals and solving challenges in this field can play a very important role in advancing and developing teachers 'competencies and students' progress. The purpose of this study is to explain the Causal model of leadership challenges of high school professional learning communities. The type of research is practical and quantitative-descriptive in terms of data collection and analysis. The statistical population of the study were 451 high school principals in Urmia, of which 210 were select as a sample by stratified random sampling. Data collection tool was a researcher-made questionnaire about leadership challenges of professional learning communities, which was evaluating in four sections: individual challenges, group challenges, organizational challenges and external challenges. Content validity by experts and its reliability by Cronbach's alpha 0.88 Calculated and confirmed. Research data analysis was performing by structural equation modeling using software of SMARTPLS18. The results of modeling analysis of leadership challenges of professional learning community showed that the leadership model of professional learning communities has a good fit.

Health-promoting Lifestyle among Students in Kerman University of Medical Sciences, 2016

Background and purpose: Healthy lifestyle is an important factor in prevention of chronic diseases. The health of medical students is highly influential due to their fundamental role in every health system. In this study, the health-promoting lifestyle and its determinants were evaluated in medical, dental, and pharmacy students. Materials and methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in 650 students using stratified sampling in Kerman, Iran 2016. The health-promoting lifestyle profile (HPLP-II) was used and data was analyzed applying univariate and multivariate linear regression analysis in SPSS. Results: The mean score for health-promoting lifestyle was 104.93±22.9 which had no significant relationship with gender, marital status, living condition, and the education levels.
