A conceptual approach for development of educational Web-based e-testing system
Expert Systems With Applications, 2011
The paper describes a conceptual approach for development of educational Web-based e-testing system. The system aims to improve the effectiveness of the learning process by providing features for flexible adjusting of the testing process. The tutors and learners can interact with the e-testing system by choosing different options for testing -easy questions, advanced questions, sequential or shuffle order, random generated questions within given range. The e-testing system can be used by students for self-testing or by tutors for official examination. When used for official examination the test results information is sent to the examiner by e-mail. The system files are stored on the server-side and are accessible through Webbrowser. A prototype of e-testing system illustrating the proposed approach is developed by means of HTML and JavaScript languages. It was used for ''C Programming Language'' course students self-testing and official examination. The experimental results demonstrated that the implementation of the proposed approach is quite helpful to facilitate the understanding and implementation of teachers' attitudes toward Web-based e-testing tools application.
ONLINE QUIZZES, AN APPLICATION OF PHPTRIAD AND MySQL ê
2008
In this paper we describe an assessment quiz tool and how it has been integrated in our lecture courses of physics in a powerful way. Our experience demonstrates that this computational method appears to be one of the most preferred modes of instruction. The topics within the quizzes make them an efficient tool. The web-design and database are elaborated using PHPTriad and MySQL programs. PHPTriad is a powerful program that contains the main modulus composed by a server running in Apache, the connection with the database which is elaborated in MySQL and, also, the connection with the web-design through PHP-html. MySQL is recognized for superior ease of use, performance, and reliability. It is a program designed for the creation and administration of databases. It provides security to the online quizzes which are password protected with Java Script. The online quizzes are designed to remedy some of the students’ deficiencies and help them to their homework. A web-based testing system with dynamic question generation
2001
The use of the web for a variety of educational needs has exploded. It provides one approach in the increasing use of electronic media. HTML-the "Lingua Franca" of the Internet-provides great platform independence. However, for mathematically intensive applications as seen in Engineering, HTTP and HTML are not able to compete with nonweb computer based programs. At least not without server-side or client-side enhancement. In the paper, we describe one solution to the problem of presenting students with dynamically generated browser-based exams with significant engineering mathematics content. This proof of concept is called WTML, Web Testing Markup Language. WTML is an extension of HTML. The web-server is extended to process the WTML and support features necessary for mathematics exams. The result is then supplied to the client (student's browser). The student completes an exam and returns it for grading and database recording. The system is used in a calculus class and then assessed
Development of Web-Based Examination System Using Open Source Programming Model
Turkish Online Journal of Distance Education
The traditional method of assessment (examination) is often characterized by examination questions leakages, human errors during marking of scripts and recording of scores. The technological advancement in the field of computer science has necessitated the need for computer usage in majorly all areas of human life and endeavors, education sector not excluded. This work, Web-based Examination System (WES) was, therefore, born out of the will to stymie the problems plaguing the conventional (paper-based) examination system by providing a campus-wide service for e-assessment devoid of irregularities and generally fair to examinees and equally enhances instant feedback. This system developed using combination of CSS, HTML, PHP SQL MySQL and Dreamweaver is capable of reducing proportion of workload on examination, grading and reviewing on the part of examiners. Thus, the system enables the release of examination results in record time and without error. WES can serve as an effective solution for mass education evaluation and offers many novel features that cannot be implemented in paper-based systems, such as real time data collection, management and analysis, distributed and interactive assessment towards promoting distance education.
O.D.E.S.: An Online Dynamic Examination System based on a CMS Wordpress plugin
2018 South-Eastern European Design Automation, Computer Engineering, Computer Networks and Society Media Conference (SEEDA_CECNSM)
This paper describes the online dynamic examination application plugin named "ODES", developed according to the open source software philosophy, where the CMS Wordpress is used as programmers/coders are given the potential to develop applications from scratch with safety and ease. In ODES application there exists two types of users: admin/teacher and student. The admin/teacher can create/edit/delete/view questions, categories of questions and examination papers. The questions are divided in two types, multiple choice questions (including true/false) and long answer questions (essays). The teacher can create exams choosing the number of questions and the types of questions that exist in the pool of questions that are previously created. The selection is done randomly by the application and the teacher just determines the total number of both multiple choice or long answer questions as well as the importance (weight) of each one of them (including negative grades also). The student takes the random generated exam and receives his/hers grades. The grades of the multiple choice questions are done automatically, whereas for the long answer questions the teacher is responsible to put grades on. After the completion of the exam the teacher can view the student's final score via the control panel or a report.
IJISTECH (International Journal of Information System & Technology), 2021
Academic Potential Test (TPA) is a test used to measure a person's ability level. At the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Victory University, Sorong, TPA was held before the Field Experience Program (PPL) where the implementation was still manual, namely the test was carried out in writing using paper and corrections by the lecturer. It takes a long time to correct and uses a lot of paper. The purpose of this research is to design a Web-Based Academic Potential Test Information System. System development used the prototype method. This research used the PHP programming language, the database is built using MySQL. The result of this study is that this web-based academic potential test information system helps FKIP in conducting online academic potential tests, where this test can be taken anywhere and can see the results directly after taking the test
The Design and Implementation of a Computer Based Testing System
Examination is one of the most widely used methods of evaluating knowledge and ability of a student. The use of Information and Communication Technology in administering examinations can improve efficiency and reduce the delay in the notification of a student's score after examination. A Computer Based Testing System (CBTS) was designed and implemented to reduce the delay in the notification of student's final examination score as well as other aspects of assessment such as Test and Assignments. The CBTS was developed using the Waterfall Model of a Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC). Implementation was done using open source web-based technologies such as WAMP server, MySQL, PhP, JavaScript, Cascading Style Sheet and Hypertext Markup Language. The CBTS presents a notification of the student's final score in an examination as well as scores in other forms of assessments. The use of CBTS can improve the efficiency and profitability of academic institutions as it reduces the cost of stationeries and labor involved in conducting examination manually. This work can be improved through the introduction of other forms of questions types such as theory based and diagrammatic questions to make the test questions more diverse.
DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT OF AN ONLINE EXAM MAKER AND CHECKER Council for Innovative Research
The study is an online, computer aided tool that was designed primarily for the conduct of online examination. The system was created using PHP, a web based scripting language, and MySQL as the database software. The system focuses on the automation of students' examinations; preparation, scheduling, checking and grading. A database is provided for the storage of exam questions, answers to questions and students' records. The system allows instructors to create an exam by entering questions with its corresponding answers into the database. Instructors are provided with three options on the type of exam; these include, True or False, Multiple Choice and Fill in the Blanks. There are three account types based on the intended users. One is the Administrator Account; this can be used to create instructor accounts. It can also be used to delete or suspend other accounts based on activity status. The Instructor Account allows teachers to create student accounts and enroll the same...
