Dynamic critical behavior of disordered 3D Heisenberg ferromagnets
Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials, 2001
The in#uence of a strong disorder on the critical dynamics of an 3D Heisenberg ferromagnet was investigated by high-resolution quasi-elastic neutron scattering. A new disordered-induced dynamical critical behavior was found, characterized by its critical exponent z"2.3. The dynamical scaling function appeared mainly una!ected by disorder but its description led to a new parameterization of the renormalization group theory, as in the case of pure nickel.
Critical behavior of the antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model on a stacked triangular lattice
1994
We estimate, using a large-scale Monte Carlo simulation, the critical exponents of the antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model on a stacked triangular lattice. We obtain the following estimates: γ/ν = 2.011 ± .014, ν = .585 ± .009. These results contradict a perturbative 2 + ǫ Renormalization Group calculation that points to Wilson-Fisher O(4) behaviour. While these results may be coherent with 4 − ǫ results from Landau-Ginzburg analysis, they show the existence of an unexpectedly rich structure of the Renormalization Group flow as a function of the dimensionality and the number of components of the order parameter.

As for the systematic investigations of magnetic behaviors and its related properties, computer simulations in extended quantum spin networks have been performed in good conditions via the generalized Ising model using the Monte Carlo-Metropolis algorithm with proven efficiencies. The present work, starting from a real magnetic system, provides detailed insights into the finite size effects and the ferrimagnetic properties in various 1D, 2D and 3D geometries such as the magnetic moment, ordering temperature, and magnetocaloric effects with the different values of spins localized on the different coordinated sites.
Effective and asymptotic criticality of structurally disordered magnets
arXiv (Cornell University), 2022
Changes in magnetic critical behaviour of quenched structurally-disordered magnets are usually exemplified in experiments and in MC simulations by diluted systems consisting of magnetic and non-magnetic components. By our study we aim to show, that similar effects can be observed not only for diluted magnets with non-magnetic impurities, but may be implemented, e.g., by presence of two (and more) chemically different magnetic components as well. To this end, we consider a model of the structurally-disordered quenched magnet where all lattice sites are occupied by Ising-like spins of different length L. In such random spin length Ising model the length L of each spin is a random variable governed by the distribution function p(L). We show that this model belongs to the universality class of the site-diluted Ising model. This proves that both models are described by the same values of asymptotic critical exponents. However, their effective critical behaviour differs. As a case study we consider a quenched mixture of two different magnets, with values of elementary magnetic moments L 1 = 1 and L 2 = s, and of concentration c and 1 − c, correspondingly. We apply field-theoretical renormalization group approach to analyze the renormalization group flow for different initial conditions, triggered by s and c, and to calculate effective critical exponents further away from the fixed points of the renormalization group transformation. We show how the effective exponents are governed by difference in properties of the magnetic components.

We used a Monte Carlo simulation to analize the magnetic behavior of Ising model of mixed spins S A i = ±3/2, ±1/2 and σ B j = ±5/2, ±3/2, ±1/2, on a square lattice. Were studied the possible critical phenomena that may emerge in the region around the multiphase point (D/|J1| = −3, J2/|J1| = 1) and the dependence of the phase diagrams with the intensities of the anisotropy field of single ion (D/|J 1 |) and the ferromagnetic coupling of exchange spin S A i (J 2 /|J 1 |). The system displays first order phase transitions in a certain range of the parameters of the Hamiltonian, which depend on D/|J 1 | and |J 2 /|J 1 |. In the plane (D/|J 1 |, k B T /|J 1 |), the decrease of |D/|J 1 ||, implies that the critical temperature, T c , increases and the first order transition temperature, T t , decreases. In the plane (J2/|J1|, kBT /|J1|), Tc increases with the increasing of J2/|J1|, while that Tt decreases.

In the present study of the nonequilibrium athermal random-field Ising model we focus on the behavior of the critical disorder R c (l) and the critical magnetic field H c (l) under different boundary conditions when the system thickness l varies. We propose expressions for R c (l) and H c (l) as well as for the effective critical disorder R eff c (l, L) and effective critical magnetic field H eff c (l, L) playing the role of the effective critical parameters for the L × L × l lattices of finite lateral size L. We support these expressions by the scaling collapses of the magnetization and susceptibility curves obtained in extensive simulations. The collapses are achieved with the two-dimensional (2D) exponents for l below some characteristic value, providing thus a numerical evidence that the thin systems exhibit a 2D-like criticality which should be relevant for the experimental analyses of thin ferromagnetic samples.

The nonlinear-sigma model and its generalization on N-component spins, the O(N) model, are considered to describe thermodynamics of a quantum quasi-two-dimensional (quasi-2D) Heisenberg antiferromagnet. A comparison with standard spin-wave approaches is performed. The sublattice magnetization, Néel temperature, and spin-correlation function are calculated to first order of the 1/N expansion. A description of crossover from a 2D-like to 3D regime of sublattice magnetization temperature dependence is obtained. The values of the critical exponents derived are Beta=0.36, eta=0.09. An account of the corrections to the standard logarithmic term of the spin-wave theory modifies considerably the value of the Néel temperature. The thermodynamic quantities calculated are universal functions of the renormalized interlayer coupling parameter. The renormalization of the interlayer coupling parameter turns out to be considerably temperature dependent. A good agreement with experimental data on La2CuO4 is obtained. The application of the approach used to the case of a ferromagnet is discussed.
THE CONTINUOUS SPIN RANDOM FIELD MODEL: FERROMAGNETIC ORDERING IN d≥3
Reviews in Mathematical Physics, 1999
We investigate the Gibbs-measures of ferromagnetically coupled continuous spins in double-well potentials subjected to a random field (our specific example being the ϕ4 theory), showing ferromagnetic ordering in d≥3 dimensions for weak disorder and large energy barriers. We map the random continuous spin distributions to distributions for an Ising-spin system by means of a single-site coarse-graining method described by local transition kernels. We derive a contour-representation for them with notably positive contour activities and prove their Gibbsianness. This representation is shown to allow for application of the discrete-spin renormalization group developed by Bricmont/Kupiainen implying the result in d≥3.
