Abtract Micro and Small Scale Enterprises (MSEs) are widely considered key drivers of economic growth and promoters of equitable development. Setup cost of MSEs are general low and labour requirement are usually much less large scale enterprises. The role of MSEs in economic and social development of the Nigerian economy is indisputable. MSEs promotes entrepreneurship, innovation and creativity within the economy. However, Nigeria is yet to ripe the full benefit of MSEs. This is largely because MSEs challenges that hinder their growth. This paper examine challenges of MSEs in Nigeria and makes recommendations to overcome these challenges.A total of 120 copies of the questionnaire were administered, 10 were not returned while 110 were used for the analysis.The data so obtained were presented in tables and analyzed using non-parametric simple percentages. Z-test statistical technique was apply in order to confirm the 4 stated hypotheses.Finding shows that finance and lack managerial skills are problems encountered by MSEs. It was that recommended that fund be made easily accessible to MSEs by government agencies and that regular training be provided to MSEsPractitionerto enhance their managerial skills
