Paleoalvei della laguna Scenari retroattivi per Venezia, verso un lago di acqua dolce (original) (raw)

Quodlibet eBooks, 2022

Abstract

The text takes its cue from the debate occurred during the 16th century between Alvise Cornaro and Cristoforo Sabbadino – the greatest experts on lagoon hydraulics at the time of the Venetian Republic – in order to reflect on the main rationales that over the centuries and still today counter the reasons “of water” and of a territory built to safeguard the Venice lagoon, against the apparently opposing reasons “of land”, of a lagoon progressively rethought in relation to the modernisation of its metropolitan city. If history has decided that Sabbadino’s thought should become the main course along which today’s idea of a balanced lagoon has been consolidated, many traces of Cornaro’s thought periodically remain and resurface, driven by persistent economic reasons and new impending environmental threats.
