THE INFLUENCE OF STUDENTS' ANXIETY IN SPEAKING ENGLISH AT THE EIGHT GRADE STUDENTS OF JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL

This research aimed in finding out whether or not the students" anxiety influence the speaking skill. The research applied descriptive quantitative method. The research subject is the eight semester students of SMP Negeri 02 Arungkeke Jeneponto in academic years 2020-2021 by using purposive sampling technique. The instruments of the research were questionnaire and speaking test. The questionnaire will be analyzed by using FLCAS Anxiety Scale and the speaking test will be analyzed quantitatively. The findings showed that the students" anxiety affected on students" performance on speaking English at the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 02 Arungkeke Jeneponto. The influence of anxiety to the students speaking skill in terms of fluency is fairly, were when the students speak they have to make an effort for much of the time, often repeat the words which have already said before and students" expression was flat. While on accuracy is poor, were the students pronunciation was errors and many basic grammatical and lexical errors. It was proved by the mean score of students" anxiety levels, were the total percentage of students" anxiety were 87% from the highest score 100% points and total of question was 20 numbers. The most of correspondents be in very anxious classification with the total median was 4.35 points. It means the students agree that the students" anxiety is influence in students" speaking English ability.

THE CORRELATION BETWEEN ANXIETY AND STUDENTS’ SPEAKING PERFORMANCE IN THE EFL CLASSROOM (A Correlational-Analysis Study at the Tenth Grade of SMA PGRI 56 Ciputat in Academic Year 2019∕2020)

The aim of the study is to know whether or not anxiety correlates with students' speaking performance at the tenth-grade students of SMA PGRI 56 Ciputat. The study used 31 students of the tenth-grade students of SMA PGRI 56 Ciputat as the sample of the research. The method of the study was a quantitative method with a correlational analysis technique. To gather the data, this study has distributed a set of questionnaires to the students which are based on Foreign Language Speaking Anxiety Scale. The questionnaire consists of 33 questions which were adapted from Horwitz and Cope (E.K. Horwitz, 1986) and also from Huang (2004). To analyze the data, the study used Five Likert Scale to rate students' anxiety levels. Moreover, to assist students' speaking performance, this study conducted an oral test for 6 groups of the student in front of the classroom. There are five aspects to be tested; grammar, vocabulary, fluency, pronunciation, and comprehension. Based on the analysis by using Product-Moment Pearson Correlation, it reveals that the students get a higher score of speaking performance if they have a lower anxiety level while the students get a lower score of speaking performance if they have a higher anxiety level. From the calculation, it is obtained N. sig=.000, where significant < 0,05, and the result of 'r' formula is-.632. Correlation between Students’ Anxiety and Speaking Ability at English Department of IAIN Palangka Raya

This study was focused to find out if there is or not any correlation between students' anxiety and speaking ability at the 3 rd semester students of English Department IAIN Palangka Raya. The method of this research was quantitative and correlation was the design of the research. The sample of the research was the 3 rd semester students of English Department at IAIN Palangka Raya consisting of 30 students taken by cluster random sampling technique. The instruments were questionnaire and speaking test. The first instrument was FLCAS questionnaire sheet developed by Horwitz et.al (1986), and the second instrument was speaking test. The result of this research showed that the result of r calculation for students' anxiety and their speaking test is-.269. Based on the table of interpretation of r value, the result of r calculated (-.269) is between 0.200 and 0.400, This value shows that there is a negative correlation in low correlation criteria. From the significance (2 tailed), the writers get the score .151. It means r>0.05 which showed Ho cannot be rejected. The result explained that there is a correlation between two variables, students' anxiety and speaking ability of 3 rd semester students of English Department IAIN Palangka Raya.

An Evaluation of the Psychological Factors influencing the Students’ Anxiety in Speaking English

Speaking is a productive skill that can be directly observed by considering several aspects. It can trigger the students’ anxiety as a psychological factor to communicate foreign language with others. Questionnaire and speaking test were used as data collection and then they were analyzed by using Independent T-Test and Linear Regression to test the hypotheses. The mean score of higher level of anxiety students was 62.37 while the mean score for lower level of anxiety students was 83.81. Based on the analysis by using Mann-Whitney U Test, it shows that lower level anxiety students have higher score in speaking performance than those with higher level of anxiety as the computation resulted in p value at 0.005. The next analysis by using Linear Regression resulted in r 2 (0.319). The data show that speaking anxiety may give negative contribution to the overall students' speaking performance achievement. It also found that nervousness is dominant factor followed by worry and tension.

The Speaking Performance and Anxiety: A Correlation Study in EFL Senior High School Students in Madiun, East Java

This research is conducted to see if there is a significant correlation among the students' speaking performance and speaking anxiety of eleventh grade students in Madiun, East Java. There were 22 students who participated in this study. The researcher used quantitative research method with correlational research design. The researcher collected the students' speaking performance through the speaking test using Brown's speaking assessment and investigated their speaking anxiety using 1-5 Likert-scale questionnaires. The questionnaires were modified from students' speaking anxiety scale conducted by Woodrow. The data were analyzed using IBM SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Science) ver 22, specifically on normality and correlation test. The result shows that the correlation coefficient number of-0.766 and sig (2-tailed) at 0.000. It means that the H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted, and there is a significant correlation among two variables, moreover the two variables are strongly negative correlated.
