A Delphi Investigation into the Future of Distance Education
The purpose of this study is to investigate the views and opinions of distance education experts regarding the replacement of traditional education with distance education settings and the advantages that the application of social and mobile technologies can bring to distance education methods. The Delphi technique was chosen as a method of study. This technique is an efficient and effective group communication process designed to systematically elicit judgments from experts in their selected area of expertise. The 35 experts that participated in the study were asked to rate 16 statements according to what they think will probably happen (probability) and what they would like to see happen (desirability). Findings show that the majority of experts foresee that the use of new technologies will change current educational theories and methodologies, and will have impact on instructor's skills, efforts, feedback and interaction as well as on the process of learning assessment. However, concerning the future of distance learning, participants view a future tendency towards the provision of full online degrees, yet, they are skeptical; stating that distance education setting will not completely replace the traditional educational setting. In addition, findings reveal that experts view the role of social and mobile technologies as facilitators in sharing information in distance education settings, creating an atmosphere of cooperation and easy interaction among users. They assume that the assimilation of social and mobile technologies will influence distance education methods and pedagogies.

Distance education established its roots as a form of instruction at least 150 years ago as correspondence study . With the advancements in telecommunications technologies, distance learning programs rapidly expanded so distance education is now defined as "the acquisition of knowledge and skills through mediated information and instruction, encompassing all technologies and other forms of learning at a distance" (United States Distance Learning Association,1998).

Learning is enhanced by the physical and social technologies typically used in distance education. Students in distance programs typically have access to tools that allow them to repeat lectures and interact with their fellow students and faculty. Students in all classes, including face-to-face and blended courses, benefit from having similar tools and technologies available. Enriching Teaching and Learning Environments With Contemporary Technologies
This research aimed to determine the opinions of undergraduate and graduate level distance education students about the education they received. Phenomenology design, one of the qualitative research designs, was used in this study. Semi-structured interview form was used as data collection method. In this research, focus group interviews were conducted in three sessions with a total of 27 distance education students (14 master and 13 undergraduate). Distance education students prefer distance education because they work in a job; they consider distance education as a great opportunity for those who cannot receive formal education. The students stated that the distance education infrastructure of the university is technically very good; they have almost no technical problems, but they have problems when connected via mobile applications.
