This research aims to describe the ability of student’s mathematical literacy consisting of four contents, namely space and shape, change and relationship, quantity, and uncertainly. Next, it is defined on which the lowest content of student's ability, how the perform of students on the process of literacy and basic skills of mathematics, and what causes students are not able to provide correct answers to the certain problem. By knowing where the weaknesses of students on certain mathematical literacy content will make us better know which content should be more taught. Students’ Mathematisation in Solving Mathematical Literacy Problems with Space and Shape Contents

This paper aimed to describe four undergraduate students' mathematisation from Surabaya and Sidoarjo in solving mathematical literacy problems with space and shape contents. This study used descriptive research with a qualitative approach. Data were collected by giving the mathematical literacy problem with space and shape contents and interviews. Next, data were analysed by studying the four mathematisation processes: formulating, using, interpreting, and evaluating. The results of this study pointed out that students'' mathematisation in solving mathematical literacy problems with space and shape contents were as follows 1) formulating contextual problems into mathematical problems by verbally describing, using mathematical symbols that have been understood, and using appropriate modelling, 2) building or using direct mathematical objects (facts, concepts, principles, and procedures) and indirect (mathematical reasoning) to obtain mathematical solutions, 3) summarising the results obtained from the counting operations that have been performed, and the last 4)stating that the mathematical solution obtained is correct by raising logical reasons. Students' mathematisation was a principal process in solving mathematical literacy problem with space and shape contents, so it was important to emerge students' mathematisation in the mathematical classroom or daily activities.

Mathematical literacy is defined as the ability possessed by an individual in formulating, employing, and interpreting mathematics in a variety of contexts. This research aims to describe the mathematical literacy processes of Junior High School students in solving PISA-like problems on space and shape content. The method in this research used qualitative descriptive. The research subject was students of the ninth grade in SMP Negeri 2 Krembung on Sidoarjo, which consisted of twenty-nine students. The instruments used were test and interview. The results showed that the students’ mathematical literacy was classified as less for the process of formulating. This research investigates the students’ mathematical literacy competence and difficulties in answering the mathematic literacy questions. This study is considered as a survey research. 53 students are participating in this research. The data are collected through the instrument of mathematical literacy competence test. A quantitative analysis is employed to examine the students’ mathematical literacy competence levels. The teacher’s mathematical ability is one of the factors that influence the achievement of students’ mathematical abilities. In Indonesia, almost all research related to PISA, the subject of research was a student. It is still rare that the subject of research was a teacher. Mathematical literacy problems require counting and solving mathematical problems in daily life. This study aims to analyze the ability of junior high school students to solve mathematical literacy problems. This qualitative research uses a case study approach with the subject of 15 junior high school students in the city area. The instrument in this study is six mathematical literacy questions oriented to PISA test questions and interview guidelines. The data analysis technique in this study is thematic analysis. Improving the proficiency in mathematical literacy is one of the efforts to improve the human resources quality. Its development describes the students’ strengths and weaknesses to support the improvement. The research tried to describe the development of students’ proficiency in mathematical literacy, based on the school level and the students’ gender. Mathematical Literacy Capability through Problem Based Learning Model in Junior High School
This research aims to find out the difference between problem based learning models and conventional to students' mathematical literacy skills. This research was conducted by experimental method. The research population is a grade VIII student of SMP Negeri 10 North Bengkulu. The sample consists of two groups, namely the Problem Based Learning model group and the Conventional group. Both groups were given pre-tests to determine the initial ability of students' mathematical literacy. After the Pre-Test, the Problem Based Learning group gets learning with problem based learning synaesses and conventional groups get learning according to conventional synapses. Both classes give post-test to find out the differences and improve students' mathematical literacy skills. Data processing and data analysis are performed using T-Test with the help of Microsoft Excel 2010 software. The results showed (1) There were differences in students' mathematical literacy skills with problem based learning and conventional models; (2) Students who learn with the Problem Based Learning model are better than students who get conventional learning.
THE ERROR OF ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TEACHER EDUCATION STUDENTS IN SOLVING MATHEMATICS LITERACY PROBLEMS
This study aims to describe errors in solving the problem of Mathematical Literacy using the Newman procedure. The subjects of this study were 12 students of Primary School Teacher Education of Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha. The instruments to collect data were tests and interview guidelines. The results of this study were: (1) the highest misunderstanding occurred in level 3 question problems with geometry content, algebra & functions, while the lowest understanding errors occurred in level 1 questions with geometry, probability & statistics content, and on level 2 questions with probability & statistics, and algebra & functions content; (2) the highest errors occurred on type 3, type 4, type 5 errors consistently on level 3 and level 4 questions on probability & statistics and algebra & functions content. Meanwhile, the lowest errors of type 3, type 4, and type 5 occured in level 2 questions on probability & statistics content; (3) men have lower type 2 and type 3 errors than women in level 3 questions with numbers content, and level 1 questions with geometry content; (4) men have higher than women errors in process skills and encoding in all content and competency levels.
