Sustainability has received increasing attention in the Higher Education Institutions nowadays. Several sustainability assessment tools have been identified for higher education through previous research. However, there should be further research for sustainability aspects in higher education since there is still no standardized assessment that all institutions follow due to its broad categories involved. This research work aims to develop a comprehensive tool for assessing sustainability in higher education. The tool is named later as "Sustainability Assessment of Higher Education" (SAHE). In order to realize the SAHE on a broad scale (locally and globally), the sustainability aspects considered in the SAHE were perfectly aligned to the "United Nations Sustainable Development Goals" (SDGs) and the "Times Higher Education" (THE). The SAHE tool provides higher education institutions with a database tool to assess their contribution to sustainable development. More specifically, the SAHE constitutes of five main categories, namely, Academics; Operations & Environmental; Planning, Administration & Engagement; Economic; and Social. The SAHE proposes 108 qualitative and quantitative sustainability indicators to report the contribution of the educational institution under each of the main categories. The SAHE structure combines several subcategories-21 layers. This unique structure, multiple-layer, provides the SAHE tool an advantage over several of the existing tools or methods. The multiple-layer structure provides the sustainability practitioner with a narrow range of selections under each indicator. This research work considers Qatar University as a case study to evaluate the applicability and operational performance of the SAHE tool. The case study started by composing a list of the potential administrative and academic sources of data. Once it is confirmed and approved, the communications with the data providers are initiated, and in return, the QU sustainability assessment database is created consisting of 85% of the information required. Finally, an assessment scoring and ranking approaches were proposed and implemented to the collected data. v DEDICATION This research is dedicated to my parents, family, husband, and my little angel Ghazal. Sustainability Assessment of Higher Education Institutions in Saudi Arabia
Universities are paramount change drivers in bringing about a culture of sustainability in society by setting themselves up as models and nurseries for sustainable development. Thus, assessment of sustainability integration within universities is key to their impact on sustainable development. This study conducted an assessment of different public sector universities of Saudi Arabia based on five components: (i) Teaching and Curriculum; (ii) Research and Scholarship; (iii) Campus Operations; (iv) Management and Community; and (v) Financial Management. The sustainability assessment questionnaire (SAQ) was utilized as a tool to discern the component-wise sustainability assessment for Saudi universities. The outcomes of the survey reveal that, in stark contrast with the universities of the developed world, offerings of sustainability relevant academic courses in Saudi Arabia are still lacking. Most Saudi universities still need to integrate research and scholarship in the area of sustainability; sustainable-campus operations in the current scenario are not sufficient. The results also reveal that sustainability-related projects are not prioritized within universities and sustainable financial management practices are not significant. This article concludes by proposing some recommendations emphasizing the importance of adopting sustainability practices in Saudi universities.

Management Practices towards the Integration of Sustainability in Turkish Universities
International Sustainability Congress by ICS, 2016
The purpose of this study is to observe and evaluate the integration of sustainability practices in Turkish universities. The main research question of the study is: How are Universities integrating sustainability practice in sustainability focused universities in Turkey as far as CORE system (Curriculum, Operations, Research, and Engagement) is considered? The employed research methodology mainly relies on content analysis of UI greenMetric ranking and universities' websites of selected universities in Turkey from the UI Green Metric Sustainable University assessment and ranking index to observe universities integration of sustainability practices. The UI Green Metric Sustainable University assessment and ranking is selected since it considers the Operations, Curriculum, Research and Engagements (CORE system) of universities with indicators such as Setting and Infrastructure, Energy and Climate Change, Waste, Water, Transportation and Education. This covers the triple bottom line of sustainability (Environment, Economy and Society) which other indexes like GASU, AASHE: STAR, ESM and others, focused mostly on operational Eco-efficiency. The sample of the study is selected from four hundred and seven (407) top sustainable universities ranked by UI Green Metric. The total population observed and evaluated in this study is top eleven (11) Sustainability focused Universities in Turkey according to UI Green Metric sustainable ranking. The data analysis used in this research study is descriptive data analysis which involves using percentage table and diagram to describe the common significant progress of Sustainability Practices in the selected universities. It is obvious that from observation made in this study, that the studied universities have sustainability as part of their goal and have plans, policies, strategies and have gone ahead to integrate some of their sustainability goals in order to meet up with the demand that is on universities to bring about sustainable society starting from their management practices. From the findings, the eleven universities need to increase their efforts in the Operational Eco--efficiency (setting and infrastructure, Energy and Climate Change, Waste reduction/ recycling, Water conservation and Transportation) aspect of the CORE system. Also, in the area of Education which consist of (Curriculum, Research and Engagement) in the CORE System all the studied universities performed below average and need to really put more effort in this aspect of sustainability which is very important in the education of students and the society about sustainability.
Journal of Sustainability Perspectives
In recent years, the destruction of the environment on the one hand and the increase in awareness of the consequences of this great danger on the other hand, has led to global actions and consequently, local actions to protect the environment and sustainable development. One of these actions is the sustainable development of universities. The reason for the importance of this case is, firstly, the goal of the universities themselves, which as the center of knowledge and training of the country's elites, is also at the top of environmental affairs, and secondly, as a center with a large number of students and staff which can have a great impact with action for environment. In this research, by using library studies, field observations and interviews, we try to identify sustainability measures of Iranian universities in order to achieve sustainable development and finally present the results of these measures to improve the methods of establishing sustainable development in univer...
