INFLUENCE OF COGNITIVE STYLES ON PROJECT SUCCESS: MODERATING ROLE OF PROJECT COMPLEXITY

The study's primary objective is to analyze the impact of cognitive styles on project success and moderating role of project complexity. With quantitative research, design data was collected from software houses of twin cities i-e Islamabad and Rawalpindi, Pakistan. A total of 500 questionnaires was distributed among the software developers and the complete responses received were 384, i.e., 80%. Using SPSS 21, statistical techniques were applied, and the results revealed that cognitive styles are positively and significantly associated with project success. If the project complexity is high, then it weakens the relationship between cognitive styles and project success.
The article contains a behavioural analysis of the aim-formulating stage of the project. The purpose of the article is to point out that in the process of formulating the aim of the project, it comes to such decision-making situations which favour heuristic thinking. The article presents the results of the secondary research. As a result of verified theory, according to which in the process of formulating the aim of the project, the interference in decision-making processes may occur on the part of the heuristics and the resulting cognitive biases.

One of the main challenges existing in the adoption of the artificial intelligence in the area of recruitment and selection and talent acquisition is the ability to codify a unified number of features to recruit the style of project managers that can fit with the job post as well as the strength of the project. Moreover, that the projects have different durations, targeted customers, scopes and plans which means there is a need for different customized features for each project. There is no one structure of a CV to match all project management needs and expectations. This research is a deductive design using quantitative methodology by applying a mono-method of surveying more than 400 project managers in the MENA region. The aim of the research is to classify the cognitive behavior of project managers in the MENA region quantitatively. The philosophy of the research is a realism one and the MENA region is chosen due to its increasing need to plan and implement developing projects. The conclusion of this study reveals the existence of four basic cognitive behavioral styles of project managers; they are the innovative, riskaverse, specialized, and experiential styles. The reliability of the measurement is tested by Cronbach 'alpha and the classification of items of the survey is implemented using the EFA & CFA. This research is adding a new generalized tool for measuring the knowledge creation style of project managers to enable talent acquisition seekers to have a more valuable adoption of AI in the process of recruitment and selection for different small and medium sized projects.
Decision making approaches in project management: A study in the Malaysian construction industry

Managerial Style Profiles of Successful Project Managers: A Survey

This study examines the managerial style profiles of successful project managers in different types of projects. The research is carried out by means of a survey addressed to project management practitioners of different countries. This questionnaire includes thirteen questions about managerial preferences, and each question inquiries two opposite options (e.g., preference for making decisions based more on logic or on emotions). This questionnaire was developed based on Jung's personality theory. The answer to each question is gathered by means of a 5-point Likert scale. Seventy eight responses were collected from project managers with a minimum experience of 3 or more years in different fields or industries. Out of these data, it was concluded that most successful project managers have common core traits as extroversion, rational judging and structured behaviors. Differences by project field and years of experience were also accounted for further categorization and research.

This study explores the type of management styles adopted by construction project managers (PM) in Iran and the relationship between the styles chosen and project success. A sample of 139 project management practitioners participated, and the results were analysed using robust statistical methods. The results show that although most of the PMs tend to take determined approaches, the rate of adoption of this management style slightly differs from that of the other styles. The results also present that the four dimensions of management style, namely interaction, flexible, proactive and external, would lead the projects to achieve better outcomes and increase the likelihood of success. The findings form an insight into the current practice and may be useful for PMs to improve their management abilities and skills.
Project managers' front-end decision making

In project management, Front End Loading (FEL) is a core work process before project authorization or sanction. This stage is where the extent of uncertainty is highest and if properly conducted with optimal decision making, it maximises the potential for project success. In UKCS oil and gas exploration and production, it is well known that projects can fall behind schedule, exceed estimated costs or result in spectacular failures. Extant research on decision making in project management has focused on classical analytical approaches, with less attention on more intuitive methods. This interview study is investigating how Senior Project Management Experts (SPME) in the upstream oil and gas industry make decisions during the Front-End Loading process. Adopting a cognitive task analysis approach, the aim is to examine how and when analytical and intuitive decision styles are used in the front-end stage of project management.
From theory to practice: toward a typology of project-management styles

Research literature on the management of projects has been quite slow in its conceptual development and still suffers from a scanty theoretical basis. One of the main impediments in the study of projects has been the absence of constructs and the little distinction that has been made between the project type and its managerial and organizational style. Based on the findings in a field study of 26 case projects, this research shows that there is a need to adopt a more project-specific contingency approach to project management in organizations.
The role of intuition and improvisation in project management

Improvisation consists of a combination of intuition, creativity, and bricolage. Intuitions are rapid, affectively charged, holistic judgements arrived at without the apparent intrusion of rational thought. Improvisation and intuition represent two important and related aspects of management in general and of the management of projects in particular. There have been few, if any, studies that have examined the relationship between intuition and improvisation in the context of the management of projects. In this research we used a model of the relationships between project managers' intuitive decision making behaviours, their use of improvisation and project outcomes in order to examine whether or not intuition is used in the management of projects, how it relates to improvisation and how intuition and improvisation are linked (if at all) to project outcomes.
Project management is a crucial expertise in today's modern society. Project Management also very crucially involves a team and the ability for the team to work well together defines how well the project can come along and be put together since managers must plan and arrange with the input of others. Throughout this report interviews with I.T project managers on different elements of Project Management will demonstrate and asses the implications as well as implementations that consist in managing projects, also how managers assess and deal with and skills that have come to be improved over time.
