CYBERCRIME AND ITS IMPACT IN BANGLADESH: A QUEST FOR NECESSARY LEGISLATION

Cyber and technology related crime is gradually increasing in Bangladesh. It is a significant issue in Bangladesh. It has already been seen that a glomming threat becomes visible in the arena of information technology. Recently the hacking of RAB website and e-mail threats of former prime minister is example for few of them. In contrast, cybercrime is becoming a threat to government itself. Due to lack of necessary legislation to tackle such type of crime, cyber criminals are almost in the safe side to commit such crime. In the Information and Communication Technology Act-2006 and ICT (Amendment) Act-2013 there are several clauses against cybercrime. But this Information and Communication Technology act is not the concrete one. By enacting this act, there is a chance to become safe side after committing crimes. So, considering these facts a comprehensive Cybercrime Protection Act should be imposed. This article incorporates the impacts of cybercrime in Bangladesh especially focuses on the area of Personal life, Workplace as well as Policy making Bodies or thinkers. I believe that this article would help all relevant concerns and especially policy makers.

Combating Cybercrime in Bangladesh: National and International Legal Frameworks

Technology driven crime, more generally known as Cybercrime 1 , has become grievous pus in the unceasing progression of science, technology and engineering. It is now a worldwide phenomenon as the scientists, engineers and law enforcing agencies are getting very serious regarding security and safety of mass use of technological equipment specially computer and internet. The patterns of committing cybercrimes are constantly changing. Hence, brunt of this heinous technological crime is also inconsiderably affected Bangladesh with its mass wave throughout the globe. Due to urgency of high cost of security enhancement protocol and legitimate software, developing countries like Bangladesh cannot enforce strict law regarding cybercrime and, investigation of cybercrime, collection of evidence for prosecuting cybercriminals require adept specialist with adequate training and budget. Moreover, preventing this sort of high-tech crime requires international cooperation with national initiatives. This article will argue that the cybercrime will not be prevented by only national initiative without cooperation from international arena even if the crime is committed in the computer located in Bangladesh. It will also argue that national law is more responsible to prevent this crime as the domestic law is capable to supersede the international laws. In doing so, it will try to suggest for accommodating harmonized, universally standard, and cooperative laws as well as policies considering the national and international politics with the diplomatic hands.

Cyber-crimes Against Womenfolk on Social Networks: Bangladesh Context

In recent years, the participation in social networking sites has increased dramatically in Bangladesh. The social networking service like Facebook allows creating online profiles and the sharing of personal data with vast networks of friends-and, often, unknown numbers of strangers. Research has demonstrated that, the impact of threats affects more the female users rather than the male users. In Bangladesh mostly it is seen that, the victims do not want to take recourse to law for various reasons, especially for social fear and humiliation. Proper law utilizations of the existing cyber laws and new law should be proposed by the law agencies to minimize the threats, as well as people should be more aware and ethical morally.

A Social Review on Nature & Reason of Cyber-Crime and the Laws Regarding Prevention in Bangladesh

This paper tries to identify the nature, reason and prevention laws of cybercrime in Bangladesh. The study followed the qualitative technique and data collected from secondary sources. Cybercrime is a worldwide social phenomena in present technological era as the scientists, engineers and law enforcing agencies are getting very serious regarding security and safety of mass use of technological apparatus specially computer and internet. It covers such a broad scope of criminal activity; the examples above are only a few of the thousands of crimes that are considered cybercrimes. While computers and the Internet have made our lives easier in many ways, it is unfortunate that people also use these technologies to take advantage of others in unfair ways. Even after taking many protective and preventive measures, the crime is out of controlled. Therefore, it is smart to protect yourself by using antivirus and spyware blocking software and being careful where you enter your personal information. Overall cyber means committing any crime by using computer, information technology or any act which is forbidden by law. The study may help the policy makers and government personnel who take initiative to protect and prevention the crime of a society.

Cyber Crime Against Women and Girls on Social Sites in Bangladesh

The advent of the internet has made dramatic changes in human lives. In addition, the internet also opens avenues for various criminal activities. Women are more vulnerable to cyber threats than men on social sites. Cybercrime against women is at an alarming state in Bangladesh. There is a need to inform about the pervasiveness and different forms of cybercrimes and increase awareness of safety precautions. This study seeks to explore the crimes committed against women and girls on social sites in Bangladesh. In addition, the research will suggest some remedial measures to control and combat cybercrime against women and girls.

Cyber Crimes within Social Networks and Efficacy of Domestic Legislations to Combat against Them

As every coin has its two sides, Internet, also contains positives and negatives both. But for all the good it does to us, internet has its dark sides too. Out of all the newest and possibly the most convoluted trouble in the cyber world is Cyber-crime. Cybercrime is an umbrella term that covers a wide array of attacks and scams. Cyber-crime generally refers to criminal activity where a computer or network is the source, tool, target, or place of a crime. In recent times most of the above bizarre crimes are committed via Social Networks. For instance, Face book impersonation, Face book pornography, Blackmailing on Facebook, Hacking of passwords & stealing of information are some of them. In the domestic scenario throughout the last few years Sri Lanka has been experiencing relatively high rate of cyber-crimes supervised under Face book and other social networks. This situation has endangered the social life of the general public, adversely affect to the life of individuals and ultimately tarnish the image of the country. In order to mitigate there are several legislations passed by parliament recently the problem remains whether they are functioning effectively and whether the general public is aware of the existing laws. Sri Lanka is having a high risk in near future in this regard and for the time being this threat has not been a complicated one. But with the availability of resources and with the developing technology over time, there is a potential of being. But our government comparatively or totally hasn't acted in an effective manner to mitigate these risks. This paper is completely focused on cyber crime issue, trends and problem faced by International and Sri Lankan users and how cybercrimes can be minimized by formulating effective cyber crime laws in Sri Lanka and how it happened in other countries.

Social Media Crime in Digital World -A Critique through Law, Policy and Practice

Undoubtedly the social media has transformed the way of communication and revolutionised the traditional media. It has opened up a fresh hope to the people to raise their disagreement, share the facts and unmask the falsehood. The different modes of social media i.e. facebook, twitter, whatsapp and youtube etc. have allowed people to create, share and exchange information, ideas, and more importantly the pictures and videos wherever you are in the world over various networks and platforms available. Along with many pluses, some of the perils of social media can't be rejected altogether. The people ability is immature to coordinate with massive information sent in text messages, facebook posts and tweets as they imbibe them without verifying the contents and it could be harmful. Apart from that, the gender based online harassment is the daring reality of virtual world of social media. This research paper aims to highlight the role of the social media in exasperating the cyber-crimes and other gender based harassment in Indian context. In addition, the paper also focus any attempt to trivialisation of harmful effect of cyber-crime through social media may have unfortunate consequences. The present study also sheds light to pathetic attitude of legal and administrative instrumentalities restraining the social media related crimes in Indian society and stresses for adequate policy and roadmap to tackle them.
