Introduction: Nepal Nursing Council issued a notice regarding the inclusion of men in nursing in June 2018. Even with this mandate, only a handful of male students claimed the reservation for nursing education. This study aimed to determine the intention of pursuing nursing as a career and its associated factors among male students in the schools of Banepa Municipality, Kavre, Nepal. Background: Nursing profession is stereotyped worldwide. In Nepal, the enrollment of males in nursing education was initiated in 1986 AD with allocation of 10% seats, which stopped after enrollment of four batches only. Nepal Nursing council has announced 15% allocation of nursing seats to male students from academic year 2018/19 AD but only a few number of males have been enrolled. Nursing profession has been a gender lopsided profession which has limited the opportunity for male students to prefer nursing as career choices. However, the perception of male enrolment in nursing among the students is extremely important to maintain the diversity in nursing workforce. This study aimed to assess the perception towards male enrolment in nursing among the students at selected schools of Bharatpur, Chitwan. A cross-sectional survey design consisted of 222 students studying in private and government schools of Chitwan districts. Samples were selected purposively and selfadministered structured questionnaire containing of 28 items for perception of male enrolment in nursing were used to collect data. Collected data were analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Majority of participants (54.5%) showed positive perception towards male enrolment in nursing whereas less than half (45.5%) showed negative perception towards male enrolment in nursing. The result indicated that perception towards male enrolment was not significantly associated with socio demographic variables. Despite having a positive notion about male in nursing, considerable number of participants were negative about male in nursing. The hiring and maintaining of male nurses in the nursing field is a very apparent issue nowadays. Therefore, this indicates the urgent need by concerning authorities in identifying the predictors in improving the professional nursing image and misconceptions regarding the gender based profession for better health care outcomes.

Nursing is a caring and helpful profession and the unique function of the nurse is to assist the individual, sick or well. Although nursing, as an education and a career, is on a rising trend in Nepal, there is paucity of data regarding the factors that influence choosing it. So, a cross sectional study was carried out purposively among first year nursing students who were just enrolled to study nursing in different nursing colleges in Kathmandu Valley, Nepal. Structured questionnaires were distributed among 336 nursing students. Major source of inspiration to pursue nursing were their parents. The main reasons to choose nursing are to learn new things and to secure job. Women have been entering male-dominated fields for decades, but it’s less common for a predominantly female occupation to have a substantial increase in its share of men. The study was set out to investigate perception and preference of nursing profession among selected senior secondary schools science stream male students in Kafanchan metropolis. A descriptive survey research design was used. A convenient sampling technique was used in selecting the senior secondary schools while simple random technique was used in drawing a sample population of 186 respondents from a target population of 360 male science students. A four-sector structured questionnaire adopted from Alexander (2010) and adapted to the study setting based on the study aim, was used for data collection. The reliability of the instrument was tested using Cronbach's alpha and a value of 0.7 was obtained which showed that it is reliable. Data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Stated hypotheses were tested using IBM SPSS version 20. Findings revealed that respondents demonstrated moderately positive perception about nurses and nursing at overall mean score of 3.32 (table 2). Findings regarding career choice of respondents showed that despite the positive outlook on nurses and nursing, only but 5.5% (9) chose nursing while majority of respondents chose a wide variety of other careers topmost were Engineering and Medicine (fig.1). The findings also revealed that factors in table were all perceived as important career choice motivating factors in the respondents' career decision taking into consideration the overall mean score of 3.62. Hypotheses tested using one-way ANOVA at 5% level of significance showed a significant relationship between levels of study and perception about nurses and nursing at (Fcal=1.51; Ftab=3.00; df=2,160; p<0.05); significant relationship between perception and career choice at (Fcal=0.77; Ftab=1.38; df=33,129; p<0.05). It was recommended among others that Stake holders in Nursing education and practice should critically examine the top-ranking motivating factors of an ideal career with the view of upgrading the profession in fulfilling those factors to attract more male potential entrants.

Nursing is a profession within the healthcare sector which focuses on the care of individuals, families and communities, so that they may attain, maintain or recover optimal health and quality of life. Nurses represent the largest share of the total workforce in India. Globally, health systems are experiencing major shifts in health sectors and creating an increasingly diverse yet interconnected world. Nurses are health professionals who are the corner stone of healthcare system in each country. Most of the students decide to join nursing profession because they had a desire to help others and nursing was perceived as a caring and serving humanity job, acute shortage of nurses and growing demand of nurses worldwide. number of nurses demand of nursing in India. Career options in nursing include staff nurses who provide direct patient care to one patient or a group of patients. Teaching in nursing includes planning, teaching and supervising the learning experiences for students that include tutors, clinical instructors, senior tutors, associate professors and professors in nursing; nursing administrative positions at the state level include deputy directors of nursing at the state health directorate. Descriptive Research Design was adopted for the present study and the study was conducted in Rufaida College of Nursing, Jamia Hamdard, New Delhi. The population for the present study comprised outgoing student nurses of Rufaida College of Nursing, Jamia Hamdard. The sample of the present study comprised 73 students of B.Sc. (H) Nursing 4 th year, Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing 2 nd year and DGNM 3 rd year. Results showed that the majority of student nurses (63.01%) had uncertain opinion regarding pursuing jobs in nursing profession; 32.8% of student nurses had a favorable opinion regarding pursuing jobs in nursing profession and 4.05% of student nurses had unfavorable opinion regarding pursuing jobs in nursing profession. The students had mean opinion score (23.9) for perception towards nursing profession and modified mean for perception is 1.33. This shows that student nurses had highly favorable opinion for perception, following preference of nursing profession with mean opinion score (15.45), modified mean (1.28) and had least favorable opinion for nursing profession with mean opinion score (15.79) and modified mean (1.05). The opinion score (18.8) regarding pursuing jobs in nursing profession of DGNM 3 rd year student nurses was high, followed by a mean score (18.7) of B.Sc. (Hons) Nursing 4 th year student nurses, and mean score of Post Basic Nursing 2 nd year student nurses was 17.8.

Introduction: Nursing as a branch of health care system is to serve the humanity. The demand of nursing is growing worldwide and Bangladesh is no exception for that. Objectives: The present study has been undertaken to assess the perception and identify the factors influencing the perception of college students towards taking nursing as a career choice for future. Materials and Methods: This is a descriptive crosssectional study that was carried out of 164 respondents. A semi-structured questionnaire was used for data collection. Collected data was analyzed by using descriptive and inferential statistical methods. Background of the study: Nursing, a profession that recalls the name of Florence Nightingale is indeed one of the noblest professions in the world. Nursing education is becoming more demanding each day. Future nurses have to consider theoretical, practical, ethical and legal aspects of their careers especially in the area of rights of the patients. The poor knowledge and attitude towards nursing as a profession has made nursing a low profile course, and hinders its advancement even more. The public's attitudes towards nursing appear to depend upon the degree of knowledge and economic power nurses receive. To attract more individuals to the profession, a positive image of nursing needs to be engendered by nurse education and the general community. To improve nurse's social image is to intervene in the social image of nursing that exists in the general public and among professionals 4. Aim of the study: The present study was conducted to assess the attitude and perception of secondary high school and junior college students towards nursing profession from Uttan community. Methods: A descriptive study with survey design was selected to assess the attitude and perception of secondary high school and junior college students towards nursing profession at selected school. A total number 104 subjects were selected by using non probability purposive sampling. The checklist was prepared to assess the attitude and perception regarding nursing nursing profession and 5 point likert scale was used to assess the attitude and perception. Results: Majority of the students 76 (73.07%) had moderately favorable attitude and 28 (26.93%) subjects had favorable attitude and none of the student had unfavorable attitude towards nursing profession. Regarding attitude revealed that, majority 49.03% agreed that they enjoy to care and to be with the people in need. The majority of 53.84% students believed that nursing is challenging procedure and 54.80% of students believed that they can be found nursing jobs wherever they go. Majority of 33.65% of the students disagree that the nursing profession is for females only. Regarding the perception revealed that majority 47.11% agreed that nursing is a technical occupation. While majority 59.61% agreed that the nurses earns good salary, majority of 57.69% also agreed that nurses have a lot of people to take care of, majority of 51.92% agreed that it takes intelligence to be a nurse. Majority 46.15% agreed that nursing is interesting, challenging and offers variety. Majority of 50.96% agreed that nursing is primarily for women.
