As the knowledge based economy grows exponentially, the knowledge assets become invaluable to the organizations. An overview of the relationship between organizational structure and knowledge management

In the knowledge era (age) that the knowledge is considered as the most important capital of any organization and society , the knowledge management is the responsibility of the organizations that intent to become the learning organizations . So , many of the organizations that want to maintain their competitive position , the implementation of the knowledge management requires that , different organizational factors existing in an organization , such as organizational structure , have special characteristics . The lack of these characteristics will prevent from the effective implementation of the knowledge management . The statistical population in this research , are the managers and experts of the Pars Sahand Toos company that are 120 people , and 58 of them are considered as a sample . The results of the Spearman correlation test show that there is a meaningful relationship between the organizational structure and its dimensions (complexity , formality,concentration) and the knowledge management in Pars Sahand Toos company .

Dependence of Knowledge Management on Organizational Characteristics

Organizational structure and organizational culture are factors forming organizational characteristics, which are determinants of knowledge management. Prior research has explored the influence of organizational structure and organizational culture on the management of knowledge; however none of them have evaluated the relative importance of organizational culture and structure to the management of knowledge. The current project attempts to re-investigate the relations of the knowledge management with organizational structure and culture by using the multiple linear regressions. Especially, it applies the analytic hierarchy procedure to rank the comparative significance between organizational structure and organizational culture to the knowledge management. The data for analyses was obtained from 101 publicly listed firms in Vietnamese Stock Exchanges. The findings provide statistically significant evidence on the influences of organizational culture and structure on the knowledge management and the influential levels are different. This research makes some contributions. For theoretical aspect, the findings offer new evidence on the relative importance between organizational structure and organizational culture to the knowledge management that is organizational culture more important than organizational structure in boosting the implementation of knowledge management in business. On practical aspect, the empirical findings will help executives come to better decisions in the management of knowledge conditional on kinds of organizational characteristics.

Studying impact of organizational structure on knowledge management (Case study: Electricity Distribution Company of South East of Tehran)

Current study has investigated the effect of organizational structure on knowledge management in the great Tehran Electricity Distribution Company (VP of South East). To collect data, two standard organizational structure questionnaire of Stephen Robbins and management knowledge questionnaire of Gold et al have been used. The purpose of this study is to understand the current situation of organizational structure and its impact on knowledge management. Independent variable of this research is organizational structure and its dimensions (Complexity, formalization and centralization) and dependent variable is knowledge management. This study has been conducted as an applied-research in terms of its objective and descriptive-correlative in terms of its method. Statistical population of this study is all of staffs in the great Tehran Electricity Distribution Company (VPof South East). The number of staffs is 615 persons which 236 employees were chosen using random sampling method and Cochran formula. Research’s results indicate that organizational structure has an impact on establishment of knowledge management. Also complexity has an impact on establishment of knowledge management. But formalization and centralization have a negative impact on establishment of knowledge management in organization. Regression equation also shows that organizational structure has the most effect on knowledge management and after that centralization and formalization and complexity play their role in knowledge management.

A Study on Organisational Factors Influencing Knowledge Management Practices

Knowledge management has emerged as a new discipline in managing organization. Organisational factors have a crucial role in the process of knowledge management. In order to be successful organisational factors such as leadership, culture, organisational structure and information and communication technologywhich create the condition for creating sharing and using knowledge in organisation. Apart from the creation, transfer and use of knowledge, is essential that it promotes and creates new knowledge that will contribute to creating value for the organisation. The aim of this work is to point out the importance of organisational factors in knowledge management process. This research is theoretical in nature and method of study is purely based on reviews. It can be concluded that sufficient attention should be given to leadership, culture, organisational structure and Information and Communication Technology.

Relationship Between Organizational Structure Dimensions and Knowledge Management (KM) in Educational Organization

This study evaluates the relation between organizational structure and knowledge management in Iran ministry of Education's organizational units. Stephen.P.Robbins model is used for measuring organizational dimensions including formality, complexity and focus. Main Elements of knowledge management consist of 8 blocks: aim, acquisition, gain, sharing, development, knowledge maintenance, knowledge utilization and knowledge assessment which are determined based on model from Probst, Rub, Ramhart. The population of this research is all of the Iran ministry of Education's organizational units employees in Razavi khorasan province of Iran. According to the sampling methods, we chose 90 individuals as the sample and we carried out a survey by the means of knowledge management questionnaire and standard questionnaire of Robin's structure among this sample. After collecting and analyzing data based on correlation coefficient of Pierson, the results clearly showed that there is a meaningful relation between organizational structure dimensions and knowledge management. In addition, we found out there is a relation between organizational formality and knowledge management. Moreover, there is a relation between organizational focus and knowledge management. The last recognized result was the relation between organizational complexity and knowledge management.

Knowledge Management: an Analysis From the Organizational Development

This research develops a theoretical framework on the implications of the organizational characteristics on the knowledge management (KM). The organizational characteristics are handled in this work as constructs, as they are complex concepts. This paper is based on a theoretical research, considering original and classic articles on KM. From a broad theoreticalconceptual research, the paper presents as a result five organizational constructs that support the KM process: human resources, team work, organizational culture, organizational structure and development and absorption of knowledge. The article presents the implications of these constructs in relation to the four phases of the KM process (acquisition, storage, distribution and use of knowledge).

Purpose -To propose and evaluate a novel management structure that encourages knowledge sharing across an organization. Design/methodology/approach -The extant literature on the impact of organizational culture and its link to management structure is examined and used to develop a new knowledge sharing management structure. Roadblocks to implementing a new management structure and methods for overcoming these impediments are discussed. The efficacy of the proposed management structure is evaluated empirically by examining its effect on organizations that have implemented portions of the proposed structure. Findings -The foundational ideas behind the proposed knowledge management organizational structure and the structure itself have been implemented in parts at various organizations located both in the USA and internationally. While the full management structure model has not been evaluated, the portions implemented in various organizations have enabled these organizations to assume leading roles in their respective industries.
