Abstract

A study of the numismatic material from an urban archaeological intervention in the center of Barcelona. As is often the case with this type of find, the material has a long chronology, specifically from the 3rd century to the 20th century. Interpretation is also often difficult because of the complexity of the stratigraphy. Despite these drawbacks, it has outlined a model for the monetary circulation, especially for the medieval and modern times, a fact that will be enriched or refuted in future studies about Barcelona. The two Croats found in the site also present an example of currency counterfeiting in the city.
