SHARING MORE THAN BANDWIDTH: ONLINE COLLABORATION IN THE ERA OF THE NATIONAL BROADBAND NETWORK

Central to discussions about NBN-enabled applications and services is the concept of online collaboration. This paper positions the software tool Adobe Connect, one of a suite of web services provided by the Adobe technology company, within the NBN-enabled services paradigm, and reports on the way it is being used to extend classroom learning in a NSW high school. Keywords: NBN, collaboration, remote learning, tele-working, Zoo Connect, Adobe Connect.

The move to online — Getting it done

Women in Higher Education, 2020

In the wake of COVID‐19, colleges and universities moved their classes to online platforms. Some academics have previous experience teaching online courses, while others lacked home computers capable of handling Zoom or other necessary programs.

2001

Over the last few years, work on recomendations, methods, and tools for 'Design for All' (DfA) has increased awareness regarding the incorporation of requirements of people with special needs into systems designs. However the extent and impact of this work in Internet-based services has not yet been widely seen. A large part of recommendations for Internet-based services has been developed quite recently and thus has not been widely taken up in design and development. Furthermore, most of this work has not been provided to designers and IT industry in forms that can enable them to easily include it within the design process. IST project IRIS is a recently started project, which aims to design an architecture and develop an environment which wi ll aid designers to design for all. IRIS argues that breadth of design-for-all recomendations, tools and methods needs to be presented to designers in a manner that can easily be integrated with the design process.

ICT services - "Communications Society On-Line" [President's page]

IEEE Communications Magazine, 2011

he IEEE Communications Society (ComSoc), being geographically diverse, relies heavily on state of the art Information and Communication Technology (ICT) infrastructure and services for its governance, operations, and to host its community and group activities. All ComSoc activities involve participation from volunteers who live on various continents and in different time zones. So ICT infrastructure is essential in keeping such a global Society operational. The Communications Society's ICT infrastructure and services are the technological foundation for our "Communications Society On-Line." The success of ComSoc in serving its membership, our profession, industry, and humanity depends on ingenuity, professional interests, and the enthusiastic volunteerism of its members who apply those virtues toward the creation and maintenance of Com-Soc products and services. The online mechanisms provided by the ICT infrastructure aid in organizing conferences, running magazines and journals, conducting meetings, and socializing ideas. These mechanisms are critical to volunteer productivity and the effective use of each volunteer's precious time.

Making a Difference - The Appropriate Use of Web Technology

2004

Much has been written elsewhere about how, different Information Technology tools, can in principle be used by groups or communities to make their web sites more effective for Continued Professional Development. In practice, complex use is not often the case. In particular, three sites were studied in Scotland, which provided web facilities for the over 60s. The sites, and the communities they served, used only simple Information Technology. Nevertheless, they enabled their communities to participate effectively, on the 'right side', of the European population's 'digital divide'.

Online communities

Human-Computer Interaction: …, 2009

It is by now no secret how vital the Internet was, is, and will continue to be in our lives. One of the most important characteristics of this medium is the opportunities it offers for human-human communication through computer networks. As points out, communication is the internet's most important asset. E-mail is just one of the many modes of communication that can occur through the use of computers. Jones (1995) points out that through communication services, like the Internet, Usenet and bulletin boards, online communication has for many people supplanted the postal service, telephone and even the fax machine. All these applications where the computer is used to mediate communication are called Computer-Mediated Communication (CMC).
