Successful control of an outbreak of colonization by Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase-producing K. pneumoniae sequence type 258 in a neonatal intensive care unit, Italy (original) (raw)

An outbreak of Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase-producing K. pneumoniae sequence type 258 in a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) was successfully controlled at the University Hospital of Palermo, Italy. Active surveillance cultures, along with effective infection prevention measures, were implemented in response to the outbreak, significantly reducing colonization rates of multidrug-resistant organisms among neonates. The findings highlight the importance of timely interventions in managing resistance outbreaks in vulnerable populations.
