The first scholars dealing with dinosaurs suggested that their extinction occurred due to a change in the atmospheric composition. During the interval of 1910-1940, dinosaur extinction theories basicallv were based in the neolamarckism leaded by the American school. The rise of the neodarwinism since 1940 favored the gradualist interpretation. Teleological and gradualist hypotheses reveal a misconception of the dinosaur bodv design. At the beginning of the 70 s the basis to consider the Mesozoic extinction as result of an extraterrestrial event were made. The Berkeley team has opened a new paradigm in Earth Sciences.
