ROLE OF CO - CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES IN STUDENT’S LIFE

The Fundamental aim of education is to make all - round development of a child. The all - round d evelopment means Intellectual, Physical, Sensible, Social and Moral development. This all - round development is made possible through education only. Because education plays the fundamental role in making man as Social intellectual, culturally well develop ed animal. And this is possible through education. To fulfill all these objectives there is need of curriculum, syllabus, textbook but as well as beyond these there is need of co - curricular activities. So in this paper it has been focused the concept and i mportance of co - curricular activities.

Co-curricular activities, as the name implies, are those, not directly related with the prescribed curriculum and include; sports, athletics, scouting, cubing, various hobbies, excursions literary societies, dramatics, debates etc. to bring social and physical adjustments in the child.

THE EFFECT OF CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES ON THE ACADEMIC PERFORMANCES OF THE STUDENTS: A CASE STUDY OF THE ISLAMIA UNIVERSITY OF BAHAWALPUR, PAKISTAN

The present study reveals the fact that involvement in the co-curricular activities produces its effect on academic performance of the students. Most of the studies have been carried out and they have revealed the fact that particular co-curricular activities certainly effects on the academic achievements of the students. The purpose of this research is to establish that co-curricular activities in which university students participate have a positive effect on their academic achievements. The study was conducted by using the questionnaire filling technique which was distributed among 500 students of the university. The study gave the fact that according to the students involved in any kind of sports, participating in dramatic and other literary activities positively affects their academic performance, while watching the television 258 has also some positive impact on academic performance. So, it can be deduced from the study that co-curricular activities affect academic achievements of the students and this impact also depends upon those activities in which the students are keenly involved.

A STUDY ON CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES AT SECONDARY LEVEL

Co-curricular activities are considered as an important part of child development. The all round development of an individual is only possible through academic as well as co-curricular activities. It can prove to be an effective tool for inculcation of values and nurturing creative talents if they are planned meticulously and executed properly. But many schools are found not arranging various types of co-curricular activities due to different problems. Consequently, many students are deprived from participation of these activities. This paper attempts to analysis the attitude of students towards participation in co-curricular activities and the attitude of teachers towards co-curricular activities conducted by the schools. Two self-made questionnaires were used to collect the data from 720 students and 140 teachers of secondary school in the district of Burdwan, West Bengal. The collected data were analysed with suitable statistical techniques such as SD, t-test, chi-square test etc. The results indicate that the attitude of Boys and Girls, as well as Rural and Urban secondary schools' students towards participation in co-curricular activities differ significantly. According to the teachers view expected and observed trend of co-curricular activities differ significantly.

Effect of Extracurricular and Co-Curricular Activities on Students' Development in Higher Education

The current mandate of the New Education Policy 2020, is to prepare students for the evolving industry practices and skills. Academic qualifications alone through the curriculum are not sufficient to adapt to the VUCA world. Extracurricular activities coupled with co-curricular activities can enforce all round personality development of students. Extracurricular activities make the learner mentally agile, participative, responsive, confident, and independent. An illustration through a case in point enables understanding of the importance of extracurricular activities and how they prove to be beneficial for learners in the higher education system. Approach: Data is obtained through the survey method to study the impact of extracurricular activities. The paper is based on analysis of selected relevant papers and articles related to extracurricular activities. The authors have attempted to incorporate the analysis of primary data to establish the role of extracurricular and co-curricular activities. Result: The analysis shows that both extracurricular and curricular activities contribute towards confidence building, along with the development of knowledge, skills, and attitude Value: With the current mandate of Skill India mission and developing youth for Industry 4.0, to match the skills required in the ever-changing requirement, this paper will contribute to the understanding, of how the skills can be developed for the learners in Higher Education.

Importance of co-curricular activities in education

The modern education system recognizes that the child come to education institution i.e. school or college for all round and harmonious development. It aims at the development of the total personality of the child and for the school or college provides co-curricular activities. Co-curricular activities are those activities which are undertaken along with academic studies. Typically, co-curricular activities are carried out outside the normal classrooms but they supplement academic curriculum and help in learning by doing. 11.The Effectiveness of Co-curricular Activities on Academic Achievements of Secondary School Students in District

This research was conducted to examine the effect of co-curricular activities on academic achievements of secondary school students in District Abbottabad. The research is experimental in nature, pre-test Post-test equivalent group design was selected for this purpose. In this study, an achievement test covering four chapters of mathematics and four lessons of English was used as measuring instrument. Depending upon pre-test scores, 200 students of 10th class were divided into two equal groups (n=100) named as experimental group and control group. The experimental group was involved in co-curricular activities and the control group did not participate in any activity beyond the classroom. There were two types of co-curricular activities. First physical i.e., games, athletics and P.T (physical training) etc and the other was debates, drama speeches etc. The experimental group carried out activities for forty minutes daily for twelve weeks. The post-test was administered after twelve weeks. The pre-test and post-test scores of the experimental and control groups served as data for this study. The analysis of data revealed that on the whole, experimental groups showed better performance than controlled group. Hence the ultimate results of the study indicated that co-curricular activities can contribute for enhancing academic achievements of the secondary school students.

Effect of over-scheduled involvement in co-curricular activities on the academic achievement of secondary school students

The purpose of the current research paper was to examine the effects of over-scheduled involvement in co-curricular activities on the educational attainment of students at secondary school level in Kohat Division. The target population of the study was comprised of secondary school students in Kohat Division. Fifty students of Grade 10 from Government High School (Boys) Khurram (Karak) were taken as sample using simple random sampling. The study was experimental in nature and therefore, "Pre-test-Post-test Equivalent Groups Design" was used. The students of experimental group were involved in co-curricular activities for 40 minutes in school and 2 hours after school time. The students of the control group were involved for 40 minutes in school only. Data was collected though pre-test and post-test technique. In order to analyze the data, statistical tools i.e., mean, standard deviation and t-test were used. The current research findings indicate that there is significant negative effect of over-scheduled involvement in co-curricular activities on the educational attainment of students at secondary school level. Past research studies reveal that involvement in co-curricular activities is directly proportional to the achievement level of the students. There is a strong connection between student's participation in co-curricular activities and excellent academic performance. The current study negates the findings of past research studies regarding involvement in co-curricular activities and students' academic achievement. The current paper shows that how over-scheduled involvement in co-curricular activities affect the academic performance of students negatively. Therefore the findings of this research study will prove more fruitful and productive in enhancing student's educational achievement at secondary school level.
