Objective: Sino Nasal Outcome Test-22 (SNOT-22) Questionnaire study was done to analyse the effectiveness of septoplasty surgery by noting the improvement of nasal symptoms & general quality of life(QOL) by means of SNOT-22 questionnaire given to patients before the surgery and 3 monthes after the surgery. Analysis of effectiveness of septoplasty is usually done by noting pre and post operative symptoms. Study Design: This is a prospective study and our data analysis consisted originally of 40 patients all of them answered the SNOT-22 questions both preoperatively and postoperatively. The age group of the patients was between 18 to 47 years. Results: In the post operative SNOT-22, the need to blow nose, sneezing, running nose, nasal obstruction, loss of smell or taste, post nasal discharge, facial pain/pressure, difficulty in falling asleep, waking up at night lack of good night's sleep, wake up tired, reduced productivity and embarrassed improved significantly. Conclusion: Evaluation of symptoms & findings in the patient is essential in deciding whether surgery or other treatment can be done in individual patient having nasal blockage symptoms. The results are encouraging us to use the systematic questionnaire (SNOT-22) to estimate the severity of symptoms in daily clinical practice.

Background Endoscopic septoplasty has become the preferred choice for septal surgeries for most surgeons due to its precise manipulation and reduced wear and tear. However, the improvement of the airway may vary depending upon the type of septal deviation the patient presents with. Correlation between subjective and objective outcomes of septoplasty in septal deviation

Background: Septal deviation is one of the leading causes of chronic nasal obstruction. Septoplasty is the procedure of choice for treating these patients. Depending on the patient’s perception and satisfaction the benefits of the surgery vary.Methods: A prospective study was conducted at command hospital air force Bangalore in the department of ENT for a period of 2 years from 2018 to 2020 in 60 patients who underwent septoplasty. Preoperative and postoperative data were documented and analysed to get the results.Results: On postoperative objective evaluation by diagnostic nasal endoscopy 47% of patient’s anatomical deviation was completely corrected while it was partially corrected in 53% of patients overall. Objective: To assess the nasal functions, nasal resistance, olfactory function, and quality of life in different surgical techniques for nasal septum deviation Study Design: Randomized controlled trial. Methods: This prospective controlled study was carried out on patients who underwent septoplasty. Patients participating in the study were divided into 2 groups; group 1: classic septoplasty (n: 25) and group 2: extracorporeal septoplasty (n: 14). The sinonasal outcome test-22 (SNOT-22), peak nasal flowmetry, and Connecticut Chemosensory Clinical Research Center test were applied to all patients before and 8 weeks after surgery. Surgical outcomes also assessed to evaluate complications 6 months after surgery. Result: In total, 39 (27 males, 12 females) patients diagnosed with nasal septum deviation were included in this study. A septoplasty was performed in all patients: 25 of them (18 males, 7 females; mean age ¼ 29.4 [range, 23-50] years) underwent classic septoplasties and 14 (9 males, 5 females; mean age ¼ 31.3 [range, 23-50] years) underwent extracorporeal septoplasties. Airway openness was achieved in all patients. As a result, the SNOT-22 scores, peak nasal inspiratory flowmeter results, and smell function scores showed significant improvements (P < 0.001). Conclusion: All corrective surgical methods for a septum deviation have positive effects on nasal airflow, quality of life, and olfaction. The rates of complications were not significantly different between 2 treatment groups.

Background: The objective of the study was to evaluate the quality of life before and after septoplasty among patients with nasal obstruction.Methods: This study was done in Government Medical College Srinagar from September 2017 to September 2018 for a period of 12 months. A total of 33 patients with deviated nasal septum who underwent septoplasty were included in the study. They were given a questionnaire nasal obstruction symptom evaluation (NOSE) to be fulfilled preoperatively, then 3 months and at 6 months after surgery.Results: The preoperative NOSE score was 72.62±22.69 and postoperative score was 10.78±15.27 at 3 months, 5.72±10.1 at 6 months.Conclusions: Disease specific health related quality of life measured with NOSE in patients undergoing septoplasty showed improvement at 3 months and 6 months postoperatively.

BACKGROUND. Nasal septum deviations are disorders in which the nasal septum has an abnormal conformation that affects nasal breathing. Surgical correction of the deviated nasal septum, performed by various techniques, is one of the methods of repermeabilization of the upper airway. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the efficacy of endoscopic surgical treatment of the nasal septum deviation on the nasal obstruction, as well as to evaluate the frequency of postoperative complications compared to classical septoplasty. Introduction The complaint of nasal obstruction or difficulty in nasal breathing is highly subjective. Benefits of Septoplasty, as perceived by the patient, also varies widely with subjective satisfaction ranging from complete alleviation of symptoms to a total failure. Materials and Methods Fifty three patients above 18 years of age, with anatomical deviation of the nasal septum as the sole cause of obstruction and symptoms persisting for more than 3 months, underwent septoplasty. Nasal endoscopy was done for Mladina typing of the nasal septal deviation. Pre and post operative NOSE (Nasal Obstruction & Symptom Evaluation) score were analysed. Results Mean preoperative NOSE score was 11.98 ±1.23. On the 6th and 12th postoperative week follow up NOSE score was 3.13±1.30 & 1.05±0.87 respectively with p value <0.05. Conclusion Mladina typing along with NOSE score will help in letting the patient know about his or her expected outcome following septoplasty.

Background: Septum deviation is the major cause of nasal obstruction, which is the most common symptom in ENT practice. Surgical correction of the deviated nasal septum has been advanced over the years, from the radical removal of both mucosa and cartilage to submucous cartilage resection with preservation of the mucosa. Objective: To compare the efficacy of the conventional and the endoscopic septoplasty in the management of patients with symptomatic nasal deviation. Patients and methods: This study included 40 patients presented to the Otorhinolaryngology outpatient clinic at Assiut University Hospitals between May 2018 and December 2019, suffering from nasal obstruction due to a significant septal deviation, randomly divided into two groups: Group A: 20 patients underwent endoscopic septoplasty and Group B: 20 patients underwent conventional septoplasty. Results: In this study, no significant difference was detected in the preoperative results of both groups regarding the age, sex and types of septal deformities. So, the preoperative circumstances were similar between both groups. Hence, results of this study showed that these two procedures were suitable to correct septal deformities but the endoscopic septoplasty was superior to the traditional septoplasty in cases with isolated septal spur. Also, it was associated with the minimal re-occurrence rate. Conclusion: Endoscopic septoplasty is a valuable teaching tool, which is efficient in the management of different types of septal deformities.
