This work involves synthesis of thiazolidinone derivatives by condensation of various amines with different isothiocyanate with microwave assisted multicomponent reactions with microwaves (140watts) in a scientific microwave oven . The protocol is designed, carried out and successful completion of the reaction is confirmed by TLC. Library of such thiazolidinone derivatives has been generated and the structures were subjected to PASS for finding their probabilities of being active biologically. QSAR study of the library was done to find out most active molecules.3-Phenyl-5phenylamino-thiazolidin-4-one (Ia-1) where R = -C 6 H 5 R 1 = C 6 H 5 NH-is found most active compound as Antidiabetic

We present here a new proposal for the “one pot” generation of new 4-thiazolidinones (9a–e) through a multicomponent reaction under microwave irradiation conditions, using aromatic and heteroaromatic amines (8a–e), absolute ethanol as a “green” solvent and modifying the aldehyde group in the glycosidic residue, synthesized from D-mannitol. The study is focused in the variation of the irradiation times and the concentration of thioglycolic acid in order to study the possibility of controlling the structure and/or stereochemistry of the products formed in the reaction. Thiazolidinones 9a–d were obtained with a 69–82% The generation of the corresponding reaction products were monitored by TLC and CG-MS, taking reaction aliquots. The conditions reaction proved to be chemoselective depending on the excess of acid and irradiation times.

We present here the study of selective synthesis of 1,3-thiazolidin-4-ones via microwave-assisted multi-component reaction under solvent-free conditions. Although, theoretically two different products are possible (benzothiazepinones 4 and thiazolidinones 5), the reaction gave only two diasteroisomers of 1,3-thiazolidin-4-ones (48-97%) in the threecomponent reaction between 2,3 : 4,5-di-O-isopropiliden-β-D-arabino-hexos-2-ulo-2,6piranosa 1, different heteroaromatics anilines 3 and mercaptoacetic acid 2 as can be seen in the scheme of Figure 1. The synthesized compounds were characterized by IR, 1 H-, 13 C, DEPT and HSQC-RMN. The stereochemistry of both the diasteroisomers was elucidated with the help of NOE experiments.

We here report an efficient microwave-assisted protocol for the synthesis of new aryliminothiazolylidene-2-thiazolidin-4-ones 6 and their azarhodacyanines derivatives 7 with quantitative yield from 2'-(methylthio)-4'-oxo-3H,4'H-[2,5-bithiazolylidene]-3'-ium tosylates 5 and 2-arylimino-5-(thiazol-2(3H)-ylidene) thiazolidin-4-ones 6, respectively, using as starting material the 4-thiazoline-2-thiones 1 and 3-methyl-2-thioxo-1,3-thiazolidin-4-one 3. The transformation of the tosylate salts 5 into their arylimino derivatives 6 has not been reported to date.

Microwave-assisted tandem reactions for the synthesis of 2-hydrazolyl-4-thiazolidinones
Tetrahedron Letters, 2009
A tandem method for the synthesis of 2-hydrazolyl-4-thiazolidinones (5) from commercially available materials in a 3 component reaction has been developed. The reaction connects aldehydes, thiosemicarbazides and maleic anhydride, effectively assisted by microwave irradiation. The synthesis of a new type of compound, 2-hydrazolyl-5,5-diphenyl-4-thiazolidinone (7), obtained by treatment of thiosemicarbazone with benzil in basic media is also reported. HOMO/LUMO energies, orbital coefficients and charge distribution were used to explain the proposed reaction mechanism.
