Institution-based weaknesses behind emerging multinationals (original) (raw)

The emergence of multinationals from developing economies, specifically the BRIC countries (Brazil, Russia, India, and China), highlights the institutional challenges they face compared to their counterparts in developed nations. These emerging multinationals exhibit unique relationships with their national governments and possess specific advantages such as natural resources and labor cost differences. The article argues for the importance of a dual approach for managers—"acting local" while "thinking global"—to overcome institutional difficulties and enhance their global competitiveness.
