Communication Level of Trainee Teachers from Institut Pendidikan Guru Kampus Pendidikan Teknik with Autistic Children

This concept paper describes a study which will be conducted to identify the level of communication among trainee teachers at the Institut Pendidikan Guru Kampus Pendidikan Teknik (IPGKPT) with autistic children. A simple random sample selection will be implemented and 52 trainee teachers will be selected. This study will also use a quantitative method by using a questionnaire instrument. This method is the easiest way to obtain data to determine the level of communication of trainee teachers IPGKPT with autistic children. Researchers will use descriptive statistical methods to analyze the data collected with the help of Social Science Statistics Package (SPSS) programming software where it can help researchers to produce accurate calculations. Accordingly, the data analysis that will be done will also involve calculations using medians, percentages, mean scores and standard deviations for the variables involved. In fact, the data will also be translated in the form of graphs, tables or charts so that it is easier to understand. This study is anticipated to inform about the level of communication the teacher trainees have with the autistic children.

The Application of Social Model for Handling Communication of Children with Autism

Borrowing studies on disability discourse, there are two leading models of disability discourse, namely the medical model and the social model (LoBianco & Sheppard-Jones, 2008). Through these two models, the interaction of people with autistic children shows a different way. This study wants to show how the application of social models in handling the communication of children with autism. The case was taken in the life of Ry (14) - an autistic boy living in Malang, East Java. Research was carried out through participant observation, and interviews with the subject, namely Ry's parents. Data findings were analyzed using the concept of disability discourse. Nonverbal Communication Behavior of Autistic Children in the Therapy Process at the Center Jambi Province Autism Service

This study aims to determine the nonverbal communication behavior of autistic children at the Jambi Province Autism Service Center, the obstacles, and the efforts made by the therapist. This research uses descriptive qualitative research with data collection obtained through interviews. The results of this study are (1) nonverbal communication behavior of autistic children seen in the therapy process such as facial expressions, eye contact, gestures, hand signals, and touch; (2) the obstacles faced in the therapy process are food factors because the nervous system will be unstable if the food consumed is not healthy, this will cause behavior in children to change, and the therapy process will not work well; (3) the efforts made are using the ABA method, communicating a lot with children and also maintaining communication with children's parents in educating children.

Communication of the Children with Autism in SLBN Surakarta: Grice’s Cooperative Principles

Autism is also believed to be one of the linguistics impairment causes. Not only having problems in the language acquisition in general, but pragmatic deficit has also become serious problem of the children with autism. The objective of this study is to demonstrate how children with autism obey the Grice’s cooperative principles. There are 5 children with autism that become subjects of this study. Those 5 children are specifically children with autism that is categorized as verbal autism children. The data are speech produced by the children with autism in the class. Data collection is done by recording and followed by transcribing. It is analyzed using Grice’s cooperative principles with 4 maxims to be obeyed. The results showed that most of the utterances produced by the children with autism obeying 2 maxims with the most frequent maxim to be obeyed was maxim of quantity.

The right educational services will help children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) children to optimize their abilities. The purpose of this study was to analyze educational services for ASD children provided by a special ASD school in Bandung. This research uses qualitative methods in the form of case studies. Research instruments using interviews, observation, and documentation. The validity of the data is using the triangulation method. This study found that ASD special schools have provided optimal educational services according to the subjects' needs. The educational services provided follow the principles of teaching and learning, curriculum, approaches and methods, teaching and learning tools, and evaluation. The design principles of edutainment system for autistic children with communication difficulties

Bilangan kanak-kanak autisme semakin meningkat di seluruh dunia. Kanak-kanak autisme mempunyai tiga masalah utama iaitu daripada aspek bersosial, berkomunikasi dan tingkah laku. Terdapat kira-kira 50 peratus daripada individu dengan masalah autisme mempunyai masalah dalam membangunkan fungsi bahasa mereka disebabkan berlakunya kemerosotan dalam komunikasi. Peranti mudah alih dengan permainan bersifat pendidikan digunakan bagi membantu individu untuk berasa lebih selesa dan lebih santai melakukan aktiviti tersebut. Terdapat pelbagai aplikasi mudah alih yang tersedia untuk individu autisme. Namun, mereka sukar untuk menggunakan aplikasi tersebut. Ini terutamanya dari segi reka bentuk antara muka pengguna aplikasi tersebut. Kajian ini menganalisis aplikasi sedia ada untuk menentukan prinsip reka bentuk berkaitan dengan Aplikasi Didik Hibur yang sedang dikaji. Lima aplikasi telah dikaji dalam analisis ini. Objektif kajian ini ialah untuk mengenal pasti prinsip reka bentuk yang penting dalam mereka bentuk sesebuah aplikasi. Analisis ini telah mengenal pasti lima belas cadangan bagi prinsip reka bentuk tersebut. Cadangan tersebut ialah paparan antara muka yang mudah, saiz imej, beberapa gambar, ikon halaman rerumah, warna, mempunyai imej yang serupa dengan objek kehidupan sebenar, penggunaan aplikasi bagi penjaga, pelayaran, perlindungan kata laluan, audio yang bersesuaian dengan imej, bahasa aplikasi yang digunakan, penilaian parameter untuk mengukur pertumbuhan kanak-kanak, pilihan untuk memuat turun gambar, PECS berasaskan komunikasi dan fungsi sebutan ayat. Cadangan-cadangan ini ditawarkan dalam kajian ini ke arah mereka bentuk dan membangunkan aplikasi prototaip untuk kanak-kanak autistik. Kajian ini memperkenalkan prinsip reka bentuk sistem didik hibur yang digubal untuk membantu membangunkan kemahiran komunikasi kanak-kanak dengan spektrum gangguan autisme. Kajian ini juga menerangkan reka bentuk, pelaksanaan, dan penilaian aplikasi ICanTalk yang merupakan aplikasi didik hibur mudah alih yang boleh digunakan untuk meningkatkan kefahaman dan kemahiran komunikasi pengguna. Di samping itu, aplikasi ini membantu mereka untuk berhubung dengan masyarakat dan persekitaran. Ini terutamanya melibatkan kanak-kanak autistik yang mengalami masalah komunikasi. Aplikasi ini membolehkan penjaga untuk mencipta kandungan peribadi menggunakan gambar dan audio pada peranti mudah alih mereka (tablet). Penilaian aplikasi dengan guru menunjukkan bahawa aplikasi ini sangat berguna dan mudah untuk digunakan. Kesimpulannya, berdasarkan keputusan penilaian, didapati bahawa aplikasi ICanTalk adalah berkesan dalam membantu kanak-kanak autistik yang mengalami masalah komunikasi.

The Influence the Picture Exchange Communication System Method toward The Communication Ability of Autistic Child

Children with autism have some very complex developmental disorders including communication, social interaction, emotions, and interest in certain behaviors. They need certain tools and methods for developing communication and language skills, especially in speaking skills. One of the methods is the Picture Exchange Communication System method. This research was conducted by using the Single Subject Research method with A-B-A design. Data collection was conducted in 20 sessions. The results of this study indicated that the effect of PECS method towards communication ability of children with autism. This was evidenced by an overlap percentage of 0%. CHILDREN WITH AUTISM: THE EDUCATIONAL ASPECT

In Malaysia, there is a growing number of children with autism, according to the Ministry of Health. Children with autism and other disabilities are enrolled in special education provided by the country's government, the private sector, and non-governmental organisations (NGOs). An NGO that offers educational programmes to children with autism in Malaysia is the National Autism Society of Malaysia (NASOM). There are 15 NASOM centres in Malaysia and there has been a need for more studies on the NASOM branch in Kuantan hence, the study aimed to examine it mainly in terms of its educational programmes. The case study research design was adopted and qualitative research instruments were adopted such as the interview and observation of teachers and students in NASOM who are involved in the programmes. The findings generated three themes: NASOM services, Challenges in teaching children with autism, and Awareness of education for children with autism. The study used a grounded theoretical framework to generate a theory inductively from the data collected. The Theory of the Stakeholder Convergence of the Ideal Ambiance for Children with Autism was produced from the study upholding the importance of converging the stakeholders such as Parents, NASOM, and the public in providing an ideal ambiance for children with autism as they seek education. The paper provides recommendations to stakeholders regarding how to improve NASOM Kuantan's services for children with autism, overcome the challenges, and improve awareness so that children with autism can have a better quality of life in Malaysia. It is hoped that the study contributes to the field of education for children with autism through the theory.

Teacher’s Communication Model in Learning Islamic Education for Autism Children

The communication model in the education process is the main thing—no exception in education for children who experience psychological difficulties such as children. The material, methods, and learning media needed are supported by a useful communication model to help the progress of religious education for autistic children. This study uses teacher communication methods in learning Islamic Religious Education (PAI). Data collection uses interviews with the support of documentation in the form of photos, videos, and event support during field monitoring. The aim of this paper is to provide a preliminary view about public awareness towards the characteristics of children with autism in Selangor. For those who do not understand about autism spectrum, it may be difficult to distinguish between autistic behavior and misbehavior of typical children. Unfortunately, these children are always perceived as spoiled children by public. Parents of autistic children are seen as parents who cannot control their children, or parents who have children with disciplinary problems.
