A Sociological Study of Job Satisfaction Among Police Officials in Ut Chandigarh

Although job satisfaction among police officers is a crucial issue for managing police forces, there is not enough research on the subject, particularly in India. Job satisfaction in law enforcement is crucial because it encourages the continuity of a competent and cohesive police force that works well together, adheres to proper policies and procedures, and offers the services required by the public. The corrective and statutory balance in society is crucially maintained by police personnel. But due to the nature of the job, police service has historically been regarded as one of the most demanding and stressful professions. The present paper focussed on level of job satisfaction. An attempt was made to know the level of job satisfaction among the respondents using 20 statements adapted from Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire. Job satisfaction was measured on various aspects, financial benefits, working conditions, work policies and public image. A majority of the respondents had low level of job satisfaction on major issues but there were some components like promotion policy, ability to enhance skills Head Constables showed more dissatisfaction.

Job Satisfaction among Police Officers In District Rawalpindi, Pakistan: Role of Demographic, Social And Psychological Factors

Police, as a major component of law enforcement, has a critical role in maintaining rule of law. Over the period of time, research has been conducted to improve police performance. In Pakistan, this institution always remains in debate. The present study aimed to explore the association of demographic, social and psychological variables with job satisfaction of police officers in the Punjab, Pakistan. The study was conducted in Rawalpindi District and 385 police officers were selected as respondents of the study. Urdu version of the self-administrated questionnaire was used for data collection. The study found that political influence, life threats, depression, anxiety and stress negatively correlated with job satisfaction of the police personnel. Job Satisfaction among Police Personnel: A Socio-Demographic Study

This cross sectional survey seeks to profile the degree, spread or extent of various facets of job satisfaction against identified personal socio-demographic variables on a purposive sample of 687 police personnel hailing from 17 police stations in Mysore Urban District, Karnataka, India. The 36-item Likert Scale of Job Satisfaction Survey covering 9 facets revealed mean score of 129.85 (SD: 21.38;60.12%) which is interpreted as 'ambivalence' on the measuring instrument. This sense of uncertainty is reflected across socio-demographic variables except gender and number of dependents although within the same expressed bandwidth of ambiguity (p: <0.05). A facet-wise and item analysis show highest source for job satisfaction emerge from their nature of work, supervision and camaraderie with co-workers, whereas the source of their dissatisfaction stem from non-availability of rewards, low salaries, poor perks, lack of promotions or benefits and wanting work conditions. The findings are presented and discussed in the light of a need to undertake job satisfaction research on a larger continual basis for updating and optimizing the available human resources in the police organization.

Factors Impacting Job Satisfaction among Police Personnel in India-A Multi-Dimensional Analysis

Job satisfaction is important for both the employee and organization. Theories of motivation and job satisfaction have been applied in the context of police organizations, providing insight into organizational dynamics. On the basis of multivariate analysis of data collected from 500 police personnel in India, this article attempts to understand the impact of demographic factors, organizational, and job characteristics on job satisfaction. While some findings conform to existing research on job satisfaction in police organizations across the world, the study also arrives at contrasting results, which can be attributed to the unique organizational culture of police in India.

Throughout the world, it has been accepted that job satisfaction is a reflection of what an employee feels about his job. Most people in employment, at some point in their lives, experience a degree of satisfaction or dissatisfaction with their job. Moreover, they tend to be more satisfied with some aspects of their job than others are. Job satisfaction is vital because it is involved directly or indirectly with personal and organisational wellbeing. This study is aimed to assess the factors influencing job satisfaction of the Police Inspectorate in the Nugegoda Police division. The Police force is involved in citizens’ affairs from birth to death. In comparison to other organisations however, very little or no attempt is taken to evaluate the job satisfaction levels of Police officers. More than 85,000 Policemen are deployed island-wide in the country, yet it is not just the government but also the Police Department itself that pays little attention to the levels of job satisfaction. Evaluation of job satisfaction is crucial because absence of this would result in poor performance and productivity that would eventually lead to an erosion of the reputation of the Police and public trust in rule of law. Objectives of this study are to identify the factors that influence job satisfaction of the Police Inspectorate; to assess the satisfaction levels of the Inspectorate in the Nugegoda Police division and to offer alternative suggestions to raise and improve the satisfaction levels of the Police Inspectorate. In addition, the findings of this study would assist to develop job satisfaction levels of the Police officers and offer appropriate recommendations for its implementation. This study is carried out among officers of the Inspectorate of the Nugegoda Police division. The Nugegoda Police division comprises 13 Police stations and 1,692 Police officers belonging to various ranks who work for respective Police stations. The Inspectorate (the body of Inspectors) consists of Chief Inspectors, Inspectors and Sub Inspectors. There are 190 officers altogether in the Police Inspectorate. For the benefit of researching, it is easy to use officers belonging to the Inspectorate as they are considered First Level or Operational Level Managers. On the one hand, given that a large number of officers are involved, it is not practicable to take all the Police officers in Nugegoda Police division as population. On the other hand, the levels of education and the experience of most Police officers of the Inspectorate would assist to measure the criteria. Fifty Police officers have been selected as the research sample by using the method of judgmental sampling. This study is composed of a conceptual analysis of job satisfaction and an empirical research for the relationships between job satisfaction and a set of variables that include organizational, working environmental and personal factors. In reality, those factors were operationalized grouping of 23 various indicators. In this research, the correlation between those indicators and the overall job satisfaction are measured. There are two hypotheses, which hypothesize two relations between job satisfaction and those factors. By analysing the data collected from the sample of the Inspectorate of Nugegoda Police division, the level of relationship would be measured by using of IBM SPSS version 21 statistical packages. The percentage and correlation coefficient analysis is used as tools of evaluation. Findings of this research reveals comparatively strong relationship between average job satisfaction and organizational factors, which contribute to job satisfaction of officers from Police officers. This may inspire to be more emphatic for organization factors in planning for methodology of increasing job satisfaction among Police officers. Besides, the result of this research shows the average satisfaction level of officers from inspectorate of Nugegoda division as a whole and this appeals more attention to be paid for increasing job satisfaction.

The research was designed as a cross-sectional study in two time periods (2014 and 2019) on a selected sample in 12 cities of the Republic of Serbia. It aims to find out about the level of job satisfaction of employees in the municipal police (Official Gazette of the RS, No. 51/2009) - militia (Official Gazette of the RS, No. 49/2019). The significance of job satisfaction in any organizational setting and work environment, including law enforcement cannot be over-emphasized. This is due to the fact that job satisfaction has the tendency to influence work productivity, staff turnover, labor market behavior, work effort, and employee morale. Job satisfaction has long been the subject of discussion among academic scholars, industrialists, researchers, as well as in the business community. The study critically examined the correlates of job satisfaction from the organizational viewpoint among officers of the Nigeria Police. Data was collected through mail in survey from 500 police officers across the country for over a period of three months of which 437 of the surveys were found valid for data analysis, representing 72.8% response rate. The results suggest that "the work itself, remuneration/pay, promotion opportunities, and supervision had significant impact on job satisfaction while co-workers had no significant correlation with the officers' job satisfaction.

The aim of the present study is to examine job satisfaction level among employees of municipal committees of Gurdaspur district in Punjab. The municipal committees play a vital role in economic development of a country. Job satisfaction relates to employees' way of thinking and feeling about the work. The research covered 108 employees of three municipal committees, viz. Batala, Qadian, and Shri Hargobindpur in Gurdaspur district. This study identifies the employees' job satisfaction level on work environment, employee behaviour, team spirit, salary, job security, and welfare measures of employees in municipal committees of Gurdaspur district. The statistical tools like factor analysis and percentage analysis have been used in this study. The employees are satisfied with their jobs in the municipal committees, but there are certain factors they need to get improved, like drinking water facilities, canteen, generator, online records, Internet facilities, salaries and wages on time so that their satisfaction level may be further enhanced.
