Master in Education Student Attitudes towards Research: A Comparison between two Public Sector Universities in Punjab

In modern world, attitudes of people are considered more important than their experiences and academic preparation. A positive attitude towards research is a key to success and progress in the knowledge based societies. This study explored the student teacher attitudes towards research. The sample consisted of 194 participants from two public universities of Pakistan and it was taken by using census sampling technique. The participants were Master in Education students in their second semester. The Attitude towards Research scale was used for data collection. The scale was consisted of 30 items which were divided into five factors: research usefulness, research anxiety, positive attitudes, relevance to life, and research difficulties. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test and ANOVA. The results showed that student teachers have a negative attitude towards research. A significant difference was found in the attitudes with respect to the type of program and prior areas of specialization. The paper demonstrates a clear need for focus on research into student teacher attitudes towards research. Low student teacher attitudes have negative impact on the pupils. The ability of teacher education programs to alleviate the problem has widespread implications. The paper produces empirical evidence about the low student teacher attitudes towards research and raises questions relevant to teacher preparation role of the teacher education programs in developing higher attitudes towards research.

The researchers of educational faculties conduct educational research, pure scientific research or discipline-based educational research as to their interest. All of these researches are important and contribute to the improvement of these faculties. However, as these faculties take the name of education, there are some opinions that show educational and discipline-based educational research should be more focused on. On the other hand, pure scientific researchers believe that the kernel of science is pure scientific research. Based on these arguments, this study tried to give voice to researchers of educational faculties. Thus, the aim of this study is to identify researchers' perceptions of scientific research (SR), pure scientific research (PSR), educational research (ER) and discipline-based educational research (DBER). To achieve this goal, phenomenology was carried out. The sample was formed through maximum variation sampling. The participants of the study consisted of 10 researchers working at Atatürk University Kâzım Karabekir Education Faculty. The data obtained through semi-structured interviews were analyzed through content analysis. The findings showed that the researchers described the SR as a systematic process of gathering and analyzing data; PSR as theoretical research which tried to understand the nature of a discipline; ER as an applied research related to education and training; and DBER as a combination of ER and PSR. Moreover, it was seen that the researchers believed that DBER did not contribute to the educational system of country due to some reasons such as policy and lack of DBER researchers.

Quality Research in Higher Education Institutions in Oman: Some Views of Teacher Researchers

Advances in Language and Literary Studies

Academic research remains a prime source of knowledge and innovation for higher education institutions (HEIs) that strive to grow, expand and develop their academic reputations and standards. Yet, research informs teaching practices, shapes social changes and it has financial outcomes for HEIs. Therefore, it is imperative to develop institutional policies and strategies for promoting and sustaining quality research in HEIs in Oman. There are a number of international frameworks and models which have been developed to measure research quality in HEIs around the world. For example, bibliometrics were used to assess research quality in HEIs in the UK because bibliometric data can provide a number of component variables. An appropriate bibliometric model may include components such as output volume, diversity of outputs, citation volume, journal impact factor and average citations per publication, etc. Moreover, other popular examples of models for assessing research quality are Multidimensional Research Assessment Matrix (MRAM) used in Europe and the UK's Research Assessment Exercise (RAE). However, neither of the above mentioned models is adopted by HEIs in Oman. Thus, the current study is an attempt to explore some institutional, international, logistic and pragmatic factors that impact academic research and publication quality, review popular international research quality assessment models and explore the possibility of applying them in the Omani context. To achieve the study objectives, 20 teacher researchers were surveyed and the findings and recommendations were presented.

Meta-analysis of postgraduate student thesis for enhancing better research quality management in islamic higher education

Perspectives of Science & Education, 2023

Problem and aim. Thesis management in higher education is a critical issue that needs to be addressed. The problem arises from the lack of quality control and redundancy in the thesis submitted by students. This has resulted in a decrease of novelty, making it difficult for universities to distinguish between original and copied work. The research seeks to analyze the students' thesis of the Islamic Education Management Program of UIN Maliki Malang to find out the issue of the study, the research methods used, and the research site. The research also aims to map the gender factor in preference for choosing the way of thesis research. This research is essential to map the extent of their research so far and in what direction their future research will be. Research method. This research was conducted in the period starting from January to November 2019. The study was conducted at the UIN Maliki Malang Postgraduate Program, a Master's program in Management of Islamic Education. The researcher took data from the UIN Maliki Malang repository website. The researcher collected 362 theses from graduate students thesis in 2010-2018. The researcher uses a descriptive quantitative approach with the SPSS 25 program to analyze the data. Results. The results showed the student thesis of UIN Maliki Malang took varied approaches, themes, procedures, and objects. About 86% of students chose a qualitative approach, and 13% selected a quantitative one. Only 1% used a mix-method. Sixty-three students are interested in the problem of leadership and religious culture. 12-30 students' interest in teachers' professionalism, employee performance, HR management, and institutional management. In comparison, only 2-3 students are interested in conflict management, innovation issues, school image, and education policy. The research also revealed that the gender factor did not affect student preference in choosing a specific analysis method with a significance of 0.06 > 0.05. Practical significance. The research implies that the institution must actively direct the student's thesis to produce high-quality research. The institution has to show specific issues that are saturated and new problems that still need to be investigated to avoid saturation of topics and repeated study. Lecturers and students are expected to know what matters and titles have been studied and what tags are still a little explored to determine the ideas and claims on issues essential for research.
