New Passive Temperature Sensor using Dielectric Resonator with a Sensitive Layer

The development of new passive wireless temperature sensor is reported. The detection principle is based on measuring the resonant frequency shift of the whispering gallery modes, by combining between two coplanar micro-machined lines and a microwave dielectric resonator that incorporates a sensitive layer. Variation in temperature makes the dielectric constant of the sensitive material changing, and such modification has an impact on the resonance frequency of the resonator. Thus, eliminate the need for contact, batteries, and power supplies indispensable for conventional active sensors and provides environmentally friendly temperature measurement solution. This completely passive and wireless temperature sensor has been designed in microwave frequency range; the measured parameters are investigated in [24-34GHz].
