Cortico-Striatal GABAergic and Glutamatergic Dysregulations in Subjects at Ultra-High Risk for Psychosis Investigated with Proton Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (original) (raw)
Abstract
AI
This study investigates the dysregulation of GABAergic and glutamatergic neurotransmitter systems in individuals at ultra-high risk (UHR) for psychosis using proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy (1H MRS). Results indicate significant elevations of GABA and Glx levels within the medial prefrontal cortex (MPFC) of the UHR group, contrasting with control subjects, and reveal strong correlations between these neurotransmitters across different brain regions. The findings highlight potential biomarkers for the progression to psychosis and underscore the importance of targeting GABA and glutamate systems in treatment development for at-risk populations.
